As most of you may not know, I am a dual citizen with Brazil and Canada, and in Brazil, it is mandatory for citizens to vote, a penalty will be issued if no justification is given.
The guy in the shot is Neymar (of FIFA world cup fame, or maybe infamy), and of course the PT party is going to fake his endorsement for PR, that's when the opposition (in this case PSDB) call them out on it.
My mother is extremely biased against the PT, and I can see why. According to her, it's like a Brazilian mafia. She keeps bringing up the term "Bandit" and "criminal" every time she mentions them, and said the have no moral values. When "Dilma" is in power, "Lula" is still the chief of operations. my mother isn't the only one being negative about them, my father's best friend (from Campinas) is also saying he regrets voting for PT after 3 elections, and all they want is power.

how do you vote in the brazil elections since you live in Canada?

I fully agree, PT has been in power for too long and has a history of corruption (as many other political parties). I voted for Eduardo Jorge, but I'm hoping Aecio wins.

I go to the Brazilian embassy and vote there.

I ended up voting for Eduardo Jorge as well, since I didn't pay attention to the parties at the time, and sure as hell didn't want to vote for PT.

I have very little understanding of Portuguese, but...
First: "Hey guys, in 2014 we are with Olimo, he's the best!"
Second: "Daddy loves you"
Stolen from a picture with no connection to politics, then?
Again, I reiterate, I have very little understanding of Portuguese.

They mail you a photo of Pele shedding a single tear.

Yup. That's pretty much what's written, But I'll translate it directly anyway.
"Hey Folks, in 2014, we're with Dilma, she the best option!"
"Congratulations Dani Lucca, daddy loves you!"

Usually you can justify. My brother did that when he was in the middle of exams on election season.

The one on the left:
"Hey Folks, in 2014, we're with Dilma, she's the best option!"
..and the original
"Congratulations Dani Lucca, daddy loves you!"

The one on the left is an obvious fake. Are Brazilians that gullible to not recognize a computer generated font?

what penalty is issued if you don't vote?

A lot of people are, trust me.
Seriously, if you make a super religious christian political party, I can assure you at least 4 members of my extended family will fall for it the second they see it. Thankfully my closer relatives don't, usually.

Wow. What a failure on my part. Then again, I never would have tried if I wasn't drunk.
Everyone always tells me Portuguese and Spanish are pretty close, but for some reason Portuguese always looks like something from another planet.
So is there no legal ramification for this illegitimate use of a public figure's likeness in a political promotion?

Usually, it's a R$ 100 - 300 fine, but if you're a repeat offender (also compounded with not paying, you can face jail time.

I'm am not sure, given that this easily could happen in the internet age, there should be one.

Yikes, if they came to the US, specifically to a major city I'd worry for them

I was an intern in VW's Anchieta factory in São Bernardo for 2 years.
And HOLY CRAP is PT strong there. Of course, the party was basically born in there. But it is unbelievable just how religious these people are about the party. They're completely blind by it.
The Unions are a mafia along with it. They work together to get whatever they want. VW has, more than once, threatened to close that historical factory because they can't stand being a union's bitch anymore. Some say it's one of the main reasons why no manufacturer makes new factories in São Paulo anymore.

That seems to add up. Brazil's been in a shithole for a while. I have family members who are super religious, and that annoys me. seeing a party with that idea is just wrong.
