Kinja'd!!!1 Kinja'd!!! 26

So after getting about 5 hours of sleep, I peeled myself out of bed for the second time this weekend, and hopped in the car for an hour and a half to go look at more cars. To say I'm glad I did is a massive understatement.

Kinja'd!!!

300SL convertible (second one of the weekend).

Kinja'd!!!

This is another of the continuation series Cheetahs (originally built by Bill Thomas). These cars are incredible, and if you ever see one, it's quite the treat. The owner of this Cheetah knows the owner of the one that's by me. They're slightly different interiors and layout, but structurally, very similar cars. In a nutshell, they're insane.

Kinja'd!!!

I finally found a shifter that compares in the "cool-factor" to the Volvo Spaceball.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Factory Five 33 Hot Rod made an appearance.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

GT-R. Looks familiar, doesn't it? Didn't get a chance to get much closer, got distracted by admittedly cooler things.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Second Isetta 300 of the weekend.

Kinja'd!!!

Nice blue wrap, not so concerned with the car.

Kinja'd!!!

Saw this originally with MountainCommand at the Orange County Fair Stancefest

Kinja'd!!!

Courtesy plate says it all. Never popped the hood though.

More to come as I get through them, but overall, I spent a long time talking to other people about the SL600 Sport. A local artist always wants to draw it, so more on that later, and trust me, it'll be the best SL600 Sport ever drawn.

Didn't bump into any other Oppos, I saw a couple familiar faces, but no one stopped to chat this time. Saw Larry Kosilla, but he looked like he wanted to finally enjoy a show with his car, so I didn't bug him this time.

I heard mixed things yesterday about November. May not be another Caffeine and Carburetors until April again.

UGHAGETHWEA DAMMIT. I was too tired (read, hungover) to go, and I really wanted to go to this one since Waveny is so damn beautiful. (I do photography occasionally for a catering company on the side, and I've shot there). Hopefully the weather holds off for the November one. I'll be there. I have no excuse if you made it from an hour away, as I live right in Norwalk.

Dammit. Also, it would be hard to hear his Sable. No idling, and you can't pop hoods. How hard was it to get to see some insides?

I came from Northern NJ, so yeah, no excuses. When OffRoadKarter comes, he comes from farther south than I do.

What on earth are you talking about? So many people pop hoods at Caffeine and Carburetors. Maybe the super ritzy people who bring their white glove catered rides out leave everything closed for the photographers, but I've always popped the hood. What's the point in going if people can't see and enjoy the cars?

Posted to their Facebook page on the 16th.

Reminder...plan ahead for C & C at Waveny Park New Canaan this Sunday.

There are two ways in to the park, South Ave and Lapham road. Exits 37 or 36 off the Merritt. Entering via LAPHAM would lessen the traffic impact on South, so please that would be preferred. Once in the park you will be assigned a spot quickly. The premier parking will be assessed on age, model, and collectability. Everyone is welcome, however the spirit of the show is on classic and rare enthusiast vehicles.

No open hoods. OK to open for a look, but closed for the duration. Engines off throughout the show , there are many who use the park for walking, jogging etc

There is plenty of spectator parking.

It imperative that C & C operations at Waveny go smoothly at the cherished venue, as the plan is to return next season.

Finally...THERE WILL BE NO ENTRY BEFORE 7am!

See you Sunday morning! ( Peter B)

That said, I didn't go so I don't know how it was enforced or if it was, but the fact they wanted to restrict it was a little disheartening.

I'm even more mad at myself for not going yesterday. It looked like it was one of the better ones. The new venue brought out some different stuff.

I posted in another reply their facebook post from the organizers, and I agree...I want to see the stuff inside. Last month there was an ABSURD airbrushed...something, but the motor work on the inside made up for the craziness.

Wasn't posted on their website, so most people probably didn't get the memo. Rule wasn't enforced one bit. The idling and revving was specifically due to the location, being a public park that people were using as a park, not just a car show.

I left my hood up, and I was fairly close to the main area, no one said a word to me, and there were C&C event staff around me and talking to me all day.

Good. The idling makes sense though, and no one did that anyway when it was downtown.

This is probably the most well behaved, large Cars and Coffee event on the east coast.

Lehigh Valley on the other hand, is a zoo. I'll be going there next weekend with the SL, hopefully sneaking in with the ritzy cars.

Look at the location. New Canaan/Greenwich/Fairfield county's biggest problem would be the WRX bro's leaving quickly. That said, the fancy people do have the nicest cars.

I've never been to the Lehigh Valley show. If it's next weekend I may have to check it out, if I have my car back...

It's in Bethlehem, PA. A solid 2.5 hour drive from New Canaan, easily, it's about an hour drive from me, and I'm only a few miles off of 287. I'll be there in the SL600 Sport, provided I'm not busy (and on Sunday morning, I shouldn't be).

More than willing to make a run to the Waffle House if other Oppos join, and the wait isn't obscene.

Interesting. I grew up in Pittsburgh, and go home once or twice a year, so driving through PA isn't foreign to me. Hell, the opportunity for Waffle House AND Sheetz has me willing to go. The cars will just be a bonus. I drive a MkV R32, but it's stock besides the exhaust. I never bother showing it as I'm not scene enough. (I'm 100% ok with that). What is that show like? Pretty good?

The show is right at the Steel Stacks. Fills 2-3 large parking lots, and then when the show is over, the dumbass vw bros do two steps and donuts all over the place. Somehow, the cops don't give a shit and leave them alone.

As far as the cars though, it's mostly tuners and muscle cars. Only a small group of exotics show up. Always nice to see and talk to people though, there are a handful of gems that come down, like a restored Subaru Brat, some crazy guy with a twin engined Cavalier Z28, and so on. Lehigh Valley is the kind of show you have to really look hard to find the good stuff, but it is there.

I googled it. I'd be tempted to do the drive just to see the Steel Stacks. It looks like an awesome location. Out here it's normally Civic and WRX bros doing the burnouts and all that, the VW's I'm around are too low to do anything unless they're on air.

I'm gonna have to make the call sooner to the weekend. I'm also looking to go hiking, and Sunday may turn out to be the better day for it. We'll see. I'll let you know if I'm heading down though.
