So I can start diagnosing my transmission.
God damn GM 4-speed. Why can't you ever last more than 150k!?
Wait... that means my dad's transmission only have like 15,000 miles left in it. Awesome.
I hope their six speeds hold up better.

What 4 speed? The 4L85E in my old '05 Yukon has taken a serious lifelong whipping and still works great! 170,000 miles on it now.
I got that truck at just under 100K and the first thing I did was replace the pan with a finned aluminum one (B&M I think?) and filled with dexron 6 fluid, drain and refill pan with fresh dex 6 every other oil change. It's never been dirty...
05 Yukon XL 2500 8.1 and lots of medium/heavy towing is about as hard on the trans as you can be...

The... 4L60E (?) they put in the Safari/Astro twins.
I dunno what transmission my dad's '04 Silverado 1500 5.3L has.

I would imagine a 4L60E, which we've never had one make it to 100k.

Oh yeah, the 4L60E - one of those was in my '96 Chevy van behind a 350. I don't think that ever had a fluid change besides the rusted out cooler line letting go... and it never quit either. I'm pretty sure it saw 200K that I know of.

Interesting. I've seen a few get to 200 and it's been a long time since I've seen one fail. I wonder what we are doing differently!

"God damn GM 4-speed. Why can't you ever last more than 150k!?" Still got double what my F-250's got... For a tranny to go at under 80k in a "heavy duty" truck that never towed, was generally babied and had the weakest engine offered... Ask me why I'll never own another ford.

Now that's bad.
We've towed with this, and generally probably abused it a little more than normal. So I guess 146k actually is pretty good.

Sadly that's not the only unacceptable problem that truck had, nor has it been my only Ford vehicle with WTF issues... Let's just say that it took more than just a dud transmission to sour me this much...
