This one I just plain don't get. One would think that when a trade offer is made, book value of the two cars is always important. Even plugging this vehicle in NADA, it's only worth $7,075. I'm sure it's worth much more sentimentally to him, but that just isn't relevant here.
Also, when he told me the Jeep had never been off-road, I had two replies that came to mind: Either "Bullshit" or "That's sad." Either one wouldn't really make the situation any better, so I kept my cool. Also, almost all of these have come from the OKC areas. So sorry Oklahomans, but you guys are kind of assholes.
Enjoy.

My offer of $20 and some pocket lint still stands.

Well that explains it a little

Throw in some buttons and a Jolly Rancher and I'll consider it

I shouldn't take joy from another's suffering but damn these posts are funny. I would say keep up the good work but that would be cruel so good luck selling the Honda.

The guy is pissed off that you're citing numbers, when selling is solely about numbers. Yep, he's totally going to go far in getting proper value for his Jeep.

"Just playing books" is amazingly stupid. If I've got a $12k car and I'm looking to trade for something cheaper, it doesn't mean I'm willing to give up $4k or so in value. Just dumb.
I traded a '92 Mustang LX straight up for a '96 F-250 XLT. My car was worth $6000, the truck was probably worth a touch more than that, but the Mustang was exactly what he wanted so he ate the maybe $500 difference for the sake of convenience.
Car buyers are just genuinely awful.

Haha thanks man. I still get nice, well-spoken people that call or text on it, so I'm still optimistic.
I just can't not share this stuff though, and I'm sure this isn't the last of it. Stuff like this happens on every car I've sold.

The part that irks me the most is the "lol."

98 Jeep Wrangler. NEVER OFFROAD. 113,000 gentle city miles. Soft top. Best Jeep around. Call or text. $16,000 FIRM.

I think "You're funny" might've done it for me. It just sounds so condescending, like some sort of high school bully.

That's the impression I got, too.

Exactly. I traded a Legacy GT with a stick for the S2000. The guy just had a kid so he needed practicality, but was a car guy that still wanted a stick. I'm a 21 year-old single dude with no kids, so the trade worked out great.
In fairness, I did right that I was interested in trades for a Wrangler, or a STI or Evo with money on my end. Either way, the value is always the most important part of any trade. Neither one needed each others car, so the only thing to judge off of is tangible evidence, like......value.

My offer for my ten speed bike, a set of old 4 way floor speakers and an old gas grill that cooked when stored 10 years ago still stands. Just let me know when you want to meet up for the trade.

So by that guy's logic, if I texted you and offered you this in trade:
You should want to trade for it straight up, because YOU SAID WRANGLER IN YOUR AD, WHY YOU NO TRADE WITH ME?!
Craigslist giveth, and Craigslist taketh away.

Well he probably took his daughter to school in it, which is worth $10k of sentimental value. I see an even trade there. $12k car for $12k truck.

Well, I mean if you're looking to sell the S2K, there's probably a reason, and therefore negative sentimental value. So really, you should throw in $2000 to make it totally even.

I bought a beat to shit AP1 with 155K on the clock (panel damage, and some shoddy repairs done by pervious owners) and the price on that one in poor condition was 7500. People are insane on lowballing you

Not all people from Oklahoma are assholes.
Just people from OKC.
WTF is up with that guy? I have literally no idea what "playing books" means. Then again, I'm just a hick from Tulsa.

I have to say this is the funniest thing ive read all day.
![]() 10/18/2014 at 22:40 |

You're right. I'm selling it, it must be about to fall apart. Just take it for me.
Really, I'm just selling it to collect my profit. I put Wranglers in there cause they're fun, easier to sell in the fall/winter, and hold their value like crazy. If that dude would've added the right amount of cash, I would've been interested.
![]() 10/18/2014 at 22:43 |

Eh, it's just how Craigslist is. People like to try coming in with a 50-60% offer to gauge how desperate you are to sell. Sadly for them, I'm not desperate to sell it. It's still a blast to drive.
![]() 10/18/2014 at 22:51 |

Oh, we're talking values?
![]() 10/18/2014 at 23:04 |

I really don't either. If you're selling a car, you have to be aware of it's book value. I mean, otherwise, no one buys it. Makes no sense.
And I'm just playing about Oklahomans. I've spent plenty of time in OKC and Tulsa; Their people are no different than Kansans. Arkansans are the real inbred fucks.
