Many left handed cobalt drill bits later, (thank god menards had a sale), I got a broken crankshaft pulley bolt out. It was recessed about 4" into the crankshaft, next to impossible to remove with a broken drill bit in an off center hole. Luckily I did the next to impossible and managed to start a centered hole less then a mm away (remember all this is 4 in into a crankshaft) and about twenty left and drill bits (dulling) later the bolt didn't budge. The broken drill bit fell out into my new hole where I managed to pick it out with a magnet. I then noticed I could fit a flat head drill bit into the space of the two holes. A lot of weight to hold down the drill later (thank god I chose to eat half a chocolate cake earlier), the bolt came out. Now all I have to do it get my ej205 torn apart and get everything reassembled. The saabaru should be done sooner than I thought.

How did it break? My electric impact popped the bolt right out of my EJ257, but I may have just been lucky. What are you doing to it? I just finished building mine a few months ago, and the cam pulleys were the only real bear. Also, the coolant crossover bolts. My advice is to buy studs and nuts and be very, very careful.

I don't know what snapped this one but its a ej22. My ej205's bolt came out nice and easy. Cam bolts were a true pain in the ass on the ej205 though. I'm currently building an ej22 wrx hybrid.
