...will switch to a 6 months lifespan for its flagship phones.
If this year they did the Z2 and the Z3. In 2015, they will launch the Z4 and the Z5. And I still have the original Xperia Z.
Well, BMW could try to speed up the pace for its own Z, if you ask me.

This doesn't explain why phones are growing faster than BMWs

Because in America, we think that bigger is better. And if you love big phones, you will love the Z4 and all of its 5.5 inches.

DAMMIT I'M SCANDINAVIAN AND PHONES ARE STILL TOO BIG FOR MY HANDS!

Apple are motherfuckers he was the last of all to get bigger. So they were the most stupid.

People hate carrying around two screens, and would like one instead
Manufactures don't like making tablets as much as they like making phones, because it's much harder to poke-prod people into upgrading a tab they brought and own outright vs. a Subsidized phone that you can only replace once every two years
A slightly bigger screen (FOR SOME) improves certain usage scenarios.
Mix all that in a big bag, ad the galaxy note being a breakout hit a few years back, and you get a recipe for increased phone sizes over time with a dash of death-to-the-seven-inch-tabs.

SO LET THEM HAVE THEIR BIG PHONES. THE CURRENT SITUATION IS LIKE NOT SELLING THE 3 SERIES BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE THE 5 SERIES

That's what I usually tell 'em!

If 9 of 10 BMW buyers were 5 series buyers, their whole line up would be the 5 series and derivatives of it. Nothing smaller would exist at all. That would be extremely frustrating to people who don't want a giant car and are looking for something smaller instead, but they are vastly outnumbered, and can no longer adequately compensate BMW for leveraging the multi-billion dollar infrastructure at it's disposal to produce what they want.
That's where the smartphone industry is at right now.

I'm sure that the Z4 will have a compact version, too. Also, that's why they came up with smart watches.
One phone in your bag, another on your wrist. In time, the phone as a standalone device, will go the way of the dodo and will be replaced by two pieces, one for your wrist and another for your face.

But technology is a lot more powerful than it was in the 80's.

If less powerful technology means no smart watches, I'm all for it.

Just got a Z3, great phone :) I'd never have an iPhone and probably won't have another Samsung after the battery & GPS shenanigans of my S3...
