I'm in Boston for work this week, and I've learned that I would NEVER want to own or operate a motor vehicle around here.

When I lived in Boston, my daily driver was an old Subaru 360. It was kind of perfect except when I would freeze in the winter. What's nice about Boston is that there's some of the most beautiful countryside driving in the nation not far away.

The crazy thing is, from a car watching perspective, there's a lot to see here: In a short walk this morning alone: a few Maseratis, a Ferrari, TONS of S-class, an E63 AMG Wagon, various Audis {A,S,RS}{4,5,6,7,8}. These are not small cars, nor are they cars that you'd tolerate a door ding on. I don't get it.

I live in NYC and yes... it sucks. But I take subway/bus everywhere and use my car to get out of the city on the weekends so it's not so bad.

As for the nice cars you will see everywhere in cities like Boston and NY they are owned by disgustingly rich people who 1. lease them and get a new one every 2-3 years and 2. The law firm/accounting firm/hedgefund they work at or own pays for them to park in a garage for 50 dollars a day... so they don't care :)

Or they live in the suburbs and only drive the BMW to the train station most days.

I see at least one Mclaren a month around here and at least one, usually two, Teslas a day.

Owning a car while living in a city isn't a necessity like in most places. We use it for pleasure exclusively as opposed to transportation and pleasure.
