Kinja'd!!!

So while we're all clear on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I want to talk about a more niche, but still very "poser" issue: Putting race track decals on your car for tracks you've never driven on. Unless the owner of the above car is on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , that sticker has no place being on that car. Same goes for all you people with Nurburgring stickers and haven't even been to Germany. Even if you've just been to the gift shop at that particular track, don't buy a sticker unless you've driven the track.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I even feel that this should go one step further. Your car should only get stickers for tracks it has been on. Much like the "kill" stickers on fighter planes, your car checked those off the list with you (though I might be hurting my argument if those kill stickers follow the pilot from plane to plane).

So please don't be a poser and make it look like you've driven tracks you really haven't.

If you've driven the track in a different car, does that count?

Luckily, I don't think that this is as widespread as the fake M/S/AMG/Type R badges. The only Nurburgring stickers I've seen have been on cars whose owners vacation there. Sebring is the popular outline here in Florida, which makes sense since it's the most active track and the closest for half of the state.

What if I've run a 5k on the track? (which did include a full lap and an extra pass of the front straight) I don't have a sticker, but I DO technically have a full lap's worth of track time.

(Disclaimer: I have been to RA, in my Subaru, and in the wife's CX-7 for a track day Mazda event, but they wouldn't allow "SUVs" on the track. Made me wish I had borrowed an RX-8 from work, or even a 6)

So you're saying having a Spa and Nurburgring sticker on the back on my Focus is not cool?

In my defence, whilst i have driven neither, I went to the 24 hour races there this summer, and also, its my car, fuck your judgement of my stickers :) they make me happy, and remind me of my fun summer when i wasnt working.

Kinja'd!!! Rainbow > It's a "Porch-uh"

Well, my car has very briefly touched the surface of the track, so I could just cut out a tiny section of the decal and use that, then stick the rest of it on my butt. :D

At the same time, though, I don't think it's really a requirement that you've driven the track. You just have to like it. (and it can't be the 'Ring unless you've driven it though. That one I agree with. I don't know why.)

Kinja'd!!! McLarry > It's a "Porch-uh"

I think you could make an argument for putting a track sticker on your car even if you drove the track in another car. Since I'm here in the USA, it's not exactly feasible to send my car to Germany to drive the Nurburgring (my car's not that good for that kind of thing anyway), but I wouldn't really feel bad getting a sticker if I had gone and driven the Nurburgring in some other car. Not that I necessarily would either way...I'm not much for stickers.

I bought a sticker at the 'ring a year ago, but still haven't managed to put it on the car.

I buy stickers of places I've been to on longer road trips. I really like this idea:

Kinja'd!!!

You used to see this stuff more, on older cars and motorcycles. But then again, the stickers are usually on removable bits like extra luggage compartments.

I just don't know where to put them. Been considering stickerbombing the trunk or fender, but I'm not that gangsta. :(

Your car should only get stickers for tracks it has been on.

Mmmm... no. Packing up either of my E30s for a trip to Germany is not feasible. However, taking our rental BMW 5er diesel Touring on the 'Ring absolutely worked.

How about driving on a race track with a bicycle? Would that qualify for a sticker?

It doesn't differ much from a tourist lap when you aren't taking your car to much more than street driving speeds.

That might sound ridiculous but one of my friends participated in 24h bicycle race on Nürburgring's Nordschleife. He even managed to crash and totaled his bike (fell down and slid over curbs at high speed and broke the rear axle). But their team still finished the race with the remaining bikes.

I've actually thought about this long and hard when I first looked into track and kills stickers. I came to the realization that it was unrealistic to limit the stickers to just the owner and just the one car for many of the same reasons mentioned above. I have driven many tracks stateside as well as Europe, but not all in the same car and feel displaying them is more of a recognition of the driver's experience than the car.

On the other hand, kill stickers must be car specific. Kills in my 10 second dragster should never appear on my DD. Sure I've had my share of kills in it too (the poor C7 lost to me and I had my snow tires on), but its just wrong if it wasn't this car.

I even took into consideration where to place the stickers. Tracks, since they are driver referenced would go on the driver side fenders. And kills should go on the passenger side so bystanders, pedestrians, idiots I have to pass on the two-lane can recognize I'm not driving your run of the mill grandad's Cadillac.

Alas, I have zero stickers of either kind on my car. The tracks were too numerous and the kills wouldn't be believed. The last thing I want is for it to look gaudy and I spend enough time educating people about the car, why put myself in a situation where I have to explain anything else.... and half the folks wouldn't believe me anyway.

Spent 28 hours at Le Mans and slept in the grandstands with my wife. Rained the entire weekend. I'm keeping the sticker on my car. Earned that one.

Also have a Nurburgring sticker on both our cars since we both drove it. We've had both cars since then.

So, in conclusion...ttttthhhhhpppppp!

For me, quite frankly, it's a pride thing. I put in the time (12 hour drive one way, for one of them), money (track days aren't cheap) and effort to claim those five tracks as places that I have driven.

And then Billy Bob can go to Sebring and sit on his couch and scaffolding tower and slap the same sticker on his truck.

Track maps are for people who have turned wheels on the track. Get something else if you have visited but never driven.

Man, there are so many versions of track decal etiquette out there. I put them on my daily driver (and I get to add a new one, holla!), but they're not necessarily ones I've driven in my daily. That's just the convenient place to put LeMons car shenanigans since I've had a couple different ones over the years.

Some people think it's only for tracks you've driven in that car.

I go with "tracks the idiot owner of this vehicle has driven."

COTA stickers are all over here, sometimes from drivers, sometimes from random fans. I'm okay with this. Either versions of this. It's a big freakin' deal, so why not? I'd imagine the same goes for the 'ring or the Top Gear test track.

That being said, if you've got a line of smaller/club tracks on there, they better be ones you've driven/worked/licked with your own tongue/etc.
