I'm moving some stuff around to my new "garage" and found all my ASE patches. I have all ASE certs with the L1.
I think they expire in 2 years. I don't do much tech stuff anymore (parts department now), but they were required back then to get brand master certs along with all the classes and testing.

I wish. Only thing I have is a lousy A+ cert and more and more I think IT certs are a scam.

Not me, but I do know my way around machinery. So yeah.

The only cert that wasn't a scam was my MCSE 2003. That shit was good for 11 years.

That's my understanding is anything below top tier stuff is garbage and the top tier stuff is even starting to lose value as people are being found to have just paper certs with no actual real world knowledge of the application they are supposedly certified in. Now people care more about what you can do instead of what some papers say you can do.

I took all 8 tests inone night years ago and only missed manual trans by a few questions. I never kept up on them because they're mostly useless for Euro stuff and employers didn't care or want to pay for them. Mercedes certs are good for me. I would get my ASE's if I needed to or if employer would pay.

There's a big difference between earning the cert and being a paper tiger these days. Hiring managers know this now too.

yeah at Merc it didn't matter but Lexus and Volvo wanted them..... lol pay wasn't increased by much.

It doesn't help that the questions are heavily geared towards Asian and domestic stuff. The same rules don't usually apply for Euro cars.

Does a FAA A&P count?

Can just anybody get certified? Like CPR certification? Could I just pay a fee for a class, take a test and get certified if I pass?

setting the lash on the rear end of a 1995 Chevy truck has nothing to do with the a SAM on a W221 lol

Thank you. I have an AAS degree for heavy equipment Ag/Con. It's cool, but I graduated at the worst possible time (when the recession hit), and realized that fixing big stuff is fun but very hard on the body. I went back to school to be a mechanical engineer, with the hopes of combining the two into a career. What made you move away from the mechanical side of things?

Thats cool, I may do that at some point

Especially if said SAM is filled with silver or nickel fuses.
