The Pontiac G5: The Cobalt's awkward, slightly cuter sister.
Was Pontiac even trying when the did this?
"Slap a Pontiac grille on a Cobalt and call it good."
Yet, I like it better than the Cobalt. I think the wheels and rear lights make it better. The loss of the mini-Corvette wannabe tail lights help a lot actually.
The fastest one they ever made, the GT, equated to an NA SS Cobalt with the 2.4L I4. Never an SS equivalent GXP.
I found a GT with a stick and only 56,000 miles. Interesting. And fuel efficient.

Why couldnt they jus make the bumper and the grille on piece? Those lines around the grille just ruins the wonderful looks of that beautiful front end

Rather have this with a manual, because 2ZZ. 170+hp and 8500 redline.

Because it's designed to fit in the cutout for the Cobalt.
The two's grilles are totally interchangeable. GM cost cutting!

Pennance for the Sunfire.
They should have called the G5 Phoenix.

I've always thought the vibe was awkward looking honestly. Thought the second gen more so than the first.

Guarantee it was cheaper to utilize the cobalt bumper and throw in a crappy grille insert. #beancounters

"Slap a Pontiac grille on a Cobalt and call it good."
That was GM's standard way of doing things through most of the 2000's

They suck to drive though, well at least the automatic one I drove once.
Gutless POS

I think the second gen looks better, but the engine isn't great. I'm more of a function over form person anyway, so looks don't really matter to me, that much.

Valid. But not always terrible.

Was it a GT, because with a manual they aren't overly gutless:

So dumb not to make the Turbo/Supercharged version. I mean, Pontiac Aren't YOU the sporty ones??

It was a vibe, didn't bother to see what trim level of camry it was. It just really sucked, had no steering feel, no power, and sounded like the damn Jetson's car.

The only two cars they had over Chevy when they died were the Solstice and G8. Everything else was a rebodied or rebadged Chevy.
The Torrent did get the Vue's 3.6L V6 over the Equinox's 3.0L V6 though.

If I remember properly these sold especially well in Canada. Why did the snow people like them? The world may never know.

Didn't the Montana have the 6.2 from the Escalade?

A minivan with a 6.2L V8?
Uhh... I don't think so.

Just like it was cheaper to secretly change the design on the ignition switch without changing the part number instead of just doing a recall.

The GT could be had with the then Celica GT-S's 180hp 4 pot and 6MT.

Almost bought a 2008 model with 85k miles and a fresh clutch (travelling salesman) in mid 2009. Almost regret not getting it, as it might still be on the road today, whereas my passat was sold and left for dead.
