I've had two. Beat to shit '98 and a too-nice '01. If you're just looking for something to bang around in they're not bad if you can deal with the size and fuel economy. Depending on where it came from expect to replace some worn components, and deal with some odd smells.

The back seats are smaller than you think, but the trunk space makes up for it. They're not fast but they're adequate.

Any other q's let me know.

Fun, reliable, gas mileage isn't terrible, try to get an 03 or later with an LSD.

Had a 92 grand Marquis. Pretty fun car for a 17 year old. I loved the bench seats. The ladies did also. Those engines are bullet proof.

I know someone who has one. Comfy, does great burnouts, sounds sexy with no muffler, and has an enormous trunk.

I've had two Box Panthers. Very comfy and can be entertaining to drive. Damn near bullet proof. Not great on fuel mileage but you end up not caring.

I had a 1999 P71 police interceptor. that thing was bulletproof I bought it for 3 grand cash in 2005 and literally the day after I got it the alternator went on it. I thought to myself "great I bought a lemon". So I got the alternator rebuilt for $110.00 and after that drove the car for 3 years and 100,000km's with nothing but oil changes and gas(& rear tires since I kept doing burnouts).

The Panther is the most reliable vehicle I have ever had including the 4 brand new cars I got over the years.

I owned a first gen Panther (85) as a teen after I wrecked the first car that I owned/shared with my cousin. It was extraordinarily smooth and an absolute tank. I flew it through the air during a rain storm and it survived with no other damage apart from some hood cracks. Not much in what you'd call power but reliable, safe, and quite a bit of room in wagon form for adult life or teenage shenanigans. We have one with 450,000 miles that is still going for the family business.

Maintenance on ones that just came out of service (becoming increasingly rare) is usually pretty good. But, beware of third party sales. Also, look at the hours it ran, no wear and tear on the rotating parts, but the engine takes a beating.

I think I made the right choice when I decided against a CVPI and bought a civilian Grand Marquis LS. Same motor, but single exhaust and an open 2.73 diff. It's slow, but if you really want to you can bolt on all the police bits to get to the same HP level. And, while it is more expensive, it will have lead a nicer life, and probably have a whole lot less miles on it.
