Kinja'd!!!

I was leaving a parking lot today and thought an oncoming car was in the further lane.

I pulled out and it turns out he was in the closer lane. Tires screeched. Cars nearly met. It was absolutely terrifying. I felt like a complete douchebag. I apologized to the guy afterwards because I felt so bad.

My car could have been gone if it wasn't for his quick reflexes. So thank you, random blue Versa driving citizen.

I had the same thing happen, you were definitely lucky. I was not, my fascia was torn off my Buick.

God, I hate it when I mistake a car for being in a lane not closest to the exit of a parking lot. I play it safe and always look further down the road for an opening spot. If I have to wait longer to see a 100% confident opening in traffic, so be it. I don't have an airbag either so I kinda gotta be extra cautious.

Im sure most, if not all of us drivers here on oppo have a similar, potentially car totaling story. Even if we are great drivers, some times we slip. Im just thankful that my slipups were just close calls, and in the end nothing happened. We keep driving, and that lesson is a big red flag of reminder of how to do things different the next.

You do not know how many times this has happened! In the wet it's even worse for me since in 2nd gear the TCS is completely defeatable in the GLI! I've had cases where I've pulled out, and had nothing but wheelspin!

It can happen to anyone, you just have to understand the mistake and try not to do it again. The only jackasses are people who don't care—we're basically just smarter apes anyhow, add cars into the mix and shit is bound to happen. Kind of in the same subject of MountainCommand's comment...

A while back, I almost completely turned down the wrong lane of a road. I couldn't see that it was partitioned as I was exiting a highway and going up a steep incline to turn left, but I really still feel stupid about that. I also completely blew through a stop sign once. No idea how it happened, just one of those situations where you pass a million side roads on a main road and one of them ends up having a four way stop. Anyways, I've always gotten lucky (pretty much only with driving) but felt like shit for days. Don't really know what I'm getting at here, but there it is. Nice picture!

This is why I don't get mad at other drivers, unless they do a bunch of stupid things in a very short period of time,
We all make mistakes were human, we miss judge a oncoming cars speed or where they are or don't see them, and if were lucky we correct the mistake ourselves or the other driver corrects it for us by avoiding the accident, it's happened to me a few times over the years, and I have also done the same for other people,

Like when i saw a car moving behind a row of parked cars at canadian tire last weekend and expected him not to stop as he left the isle, so I Stopped, and sure as shit he pulled out saw me and locked it up to stop half way into my lane, but I was already stopped.

I call it driving karma, and so far it's treated me well, Also always wave when someone lets you in, or they will burn a hole into your headrest with there eyes!
