Not really that much different, huh?
Here's the blank ones so you can make your own!
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:22 |

...the blank front actually looks really nice. Would sit in front of and gaze at longingly/10.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:23 |

When I get home, I wanna try to fit a Miata in there.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:23 |

You must be really full.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:25 |
|
Maybe. After all, i8 Pontiac.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:26 |
|
You'd be able to fit like 3 in there.
Good luck on the pop-up headlights!

It really reinforces that the BMW kidneys are just a styling affectation. They don't even do anything on the i8 - the radiator intake is at the bottom of the bumper cover.
I like it blank. It's actually better than the single kidney version.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:28 |

LOL, BMW.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:31 |

I prefer the kidney grills to the weird single / open hellcat grill thing. I don't much care for the charger hellcat styling in general.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:31 |
|
I don't mind the kidneys, I just think the car still looks gorgeous without them. I tend to prefer clean, simple lines, so the i8 kind of contradicts what I normally find pretty in car styling, but I don't think the kidneys add much to the overall design apart from reinforcing branding.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:33 |

Brilliant! we'll combine the awesome power of BMW's three cylinder with the outstanding interior finish of a Charger, wait that doesn't sound right.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:33 |
|
Well keep in mind it'd have a front plate, tow hook cover, and parking sensors to break up the emptiness.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:33 |
|
Tohru Rokuno: removing kidneys since 2013!
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:34 |

What is the point of all of these lines and creases? And why are there 3 colors? I hate that section of the bumper.

Just saw an i3 today. very strange

Needs moar racetrack lighting.

OH MY GOD YES.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:36 |

Actually a huge design improvement over the Charger. Nice!
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:36 |

My cousin's next-door neighbor has an i3. They're goofy-looking in person.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:36 |

Looks like a Holden
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:38 |

This is terrible. My skills are no match for others haha. I give you the Subaru i8 STi
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:38 |
|
This may sound Torchinsky-level crazy, but what if we used the Charger motor and the BMW interior? Wait, no, they'd want to put iDrive into it.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:39 |
|
I did 'shop away the tow hook cover and parking sensors. Not all states need a front plate, though.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:40 |

I definitely agree with simple design language, it is definitely what I prefer but for some reason I feel like it does lose something (design wise) without the kidney grills, and they have been just brand essential for a long time now. I like the symmetry they give though, although it definitely works better on some cars than others.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:40 |
|
You are literally the only one.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:41 |
|
Honestly, that's all they are for at this point. It's a visual shorthand: Euro styling + split grille = BMW.
I probably would never buy a car that looks like the i8, but I like the fact that it exists and is on the road.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:42 |

Better?
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:52 |

I always thought the front favored the new Mustang

this whole post is jackassery.
(just needed that to be said)
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:57 |

This looks a million times better then the hack-job done on the production one. Only issue here is sufficient cooling.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 14:58 |

If they insist on the double kidney stack them one over the other.
Gotta agree tho. this is a lot better.

FPV GT-F
why did I do this. I have a serious case of photochoppers regret right about now.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 15:09 |

On the actual i8 the radiator intake is the bottom one. If the upper grille was functional as well, with an aluminum 4-core or 6-core, it would work.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 15:10 |

Well done! Now do the back!

Now I want an i8 with a Hellcat Hemi. Carbon-fiber, mid engine, 707hp monster.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 15:44 |

I'd actually consider a Dodge with that front end.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 15:54 |

The back is great! The front is kinda scary! I love it!

Here's the rear shot I used. Fire up Photoshop, GIMP, MS Paint, Manga Studio - whatever you've got - and show us your vision! The whole point of posting the blanks is to make it interactive.

![]() 10/15/2014 at 16:19 |

Just saying that the frontal area isn't large enough to fit the radiator needed. Most of the duty of the engine will be done in traffic and revving around town to wag the small penis. The radiator in the stock and the SRT is massive. They went with a thinner but larger area for reasons of more available air flow.
Like you said a deeper radiator could work, but it may interfere with airflow a bit too much considering that it also needs a condenser for the air con.

It's too tall looking for a car and to short and low to be a crossover. It just looks awkward.

You've created the Jokermobile.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 17:42 |

True, but it's definitely a minority, and AFAIK all European countries require it. Though that hasn't stopped my old neighbour from driving his 458 around with no front number plate. To his defence, where is it supposed to go on that car? There are a lot of cars out there that don't seem to be designed with that in mind. (I'm looking at you, Alfa)
![]() 10/15/2014 at 17:49 |

They're goofy awesome!
![]() 10/15/2014 at 18:45 |

Lol what kind of montstrosity is that in the back? Front looks good...back not so much.

It sorta looks like a funny-car now.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 19:10 |

There was still a lot of work there. You rotated both the Fiero (towards the camera) and the i8 (away from the camera) - tricks that are still out of my league for now.
You're good, man. Don't even play it down.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 20:23 |

I FORGOT ABOUT THE BEST PART!

Maybe Hellcat All The Things would be a better thing. :)

It's more fun this way.

For the record, the bottom third of the kidneys on the i8 are open and functional

![]() 10/16/2014 at 00:53 |

No way. That is way too much open space. Something I'm glad BMW isn't doing. Leaving a huge portion of the front-end as an empty grille just says to me that the designers are lazy
![]() 10/16/2014 at 01:01 |
|
So what car is it supposed to be shitting out this time?
![]() 10/16/2014 at 01:03 |
|
On the original i8, they're supposed to make it look like it's shitting out a 911.
![]() 10/16/2014 at 01:37 |

That front looks like a TVR.
Fantastic.

right? what blew me away was how skinny the tires were. like bicycle tires
![]() 10/16/2014 at 12:44 |

Fair enough, but I like minimalism. The rest of the i8 is so heavily styled that having a minimalist front end doesn't really fit, but I generally don't like cars to be overstyled because the designers would otherwise be seen as lazy. That kind of attitude leads to stuff like this:
and this:
Which I'm sure many people love, but I personally can't stand.
![]() 10/16/2014 at 16:58 |

Am I the only one who thinks the front of this thing actually looks pretty awesome?
