Just had to take a picture of it with my 9-3
It's a 1986 Saab 900 turbo convertible. 5 speed with 125k miles. The car belonged to a friend and developed an electrical problem that prevented the car from starting and sat for several years, the inspection and registration both expired in 2011. The shop ultimately needed the space and my friend was given the choice to tow the car out or it could be junked. He told me the situation and offered the car to me, which I decided I would not let this car get crushed.
Why save an old Saab convertible? I will be the first to admit I love Saabs, and have owned several but this car is a bit of an oddball. While the world got the first generation Saab 900 convertible beginning in 1987 with the redesigned sloped front end. The car was actually sold first in the USA only for 1986, so the car was US/DOT specified and the car has the earlier flat front end. Production numbers vary between 300 and 400 units built. Some were crash tested, some stayed behind in Trollhattan with Saab executives, and the rest were shipped one per dealer to the US.
Example of the 1987-1994 Saab 900 convertible front end
As a result of the car laying idle for so long, it has gotten dirty, collected water and spiders have set up camp. However, I'm overcoming my fear of spiders and started cleaning up the water and dirt already while I wait for a replacement distributor to come in. It's dirty, it smells a bit but I don't care. I love working on them and when you finally turn that key and bring it to life, its an indescribable feeling.

"You like Vampire Weekend? Let me tell you why they're the scum of the earth."
I refuse to let people like those monsters anymore.
Not to mention their music sucks regardless.

WFUV plays their noise on occasion, I've considered calling up during their telethon and offer money for them to not play that crap. And that was before any Saabs got torched.
