I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I feel obliged to inform the Jalopnik community that commenter Gimmi has presumably left us for a better place.

Gimmi, 83, has been an active commenter since 2009, the year he retired from his position as an electrical engineer for the Sauber F1 team. Hed had previously occupied similar positions at Ferrari and Lotus. A good friend of Colin Chapman, Gimmi was a licensed commercial pilot and a former fighter jet pilot for the Swedish military.

An unconventional elder for sure, Gimmi was until recently getting groceries with his Lotus Super 7. Gimmi was also the co-owner of a car collection that would have made Jay Leno super jealous.

His famous dumps as well as his precious advices on how to get a job in F1 and his set of pictures from the 2008 Chinese Grand Prix will be sorely missed.

Gimmi is one of the more respected members here. IIRC sometimes he'd go weeks without posting. Maybe he'll come back.

Agreed with your notes, I had some good conversations with him as well. Even got some travel advice in August. other comments seem to indicate that he just hasn't posted in a while and not a true confirmation of his passing.

Hope you are right. His posts were a little scattered, but he always seemed to surprise us. He is like Raikkonen, I could sit and drink coffee and talk for hours.
