Watch the first 787-9 Dreamliner that Virgin Atlantic purchased get put together in a time lapse. I would love to tour an airplane assembly plant, putting together something that big is just fascinating.

I walk around an airplane manufacturing plant all the time. It's loud

But are your planes so big that you have the awesome two driver cart thingy (~0:40) to transport the cockpit sections around your plant?

The soothing sound of pneumatic rivet bucking guns. I remember that. I can't really say that I miss it either.

I got to tour the plant during "Family Day" last summer since my brother works there. It's freaking HUGE! We couldn't take pictures inside, so I can't give SR20, but if you get the chance through the Future of Flight near the plant, DO IT!

That would be an awesome tour. I've never been to Seattle, so I don't know that I'll ever get the chance but if I make it out that way it is definitely on the list.
I actually got to tour the Enstrom Helicopter plant a few weeks ago and that was also very cool. They aren't as imposing as an airliner seeing as they are small helicopters, but it was still very cool to see what goes into making them. That was especially neat as they make just about everything except avionics and engines themselves.

My GF flies to Asia 4 or 5 times a year. She's pissed at ANA because they're not using the 787 on long haul international routes. No bigger business class for you!

Don't get me wrong, walking around the factory is still really cool. But sometimes you're just passing through and just want some quiet

I haven't watched the video, but probably not. Our sections can usually be rolled around by a tug

I got a chance to fly a 787 from Houston to Chicago right after they were put back into service after the battery grounding a few years ago. Even in cattle class they are a nice ride. The electrochromic shades are a nice touch and it definitely seemed more comfortable than most. How much is due to design and how much is due to the airplane being new in service and not having been used and abused for 10 years prior to me hopping on it is another question.

The equipment that they've got to move around huge sections is as interesting as the airplane itself IMO. The paint shop would be pretty impressive to tour. So much paper and tape to mask off an airplane. Plus the overhead lift/tram/work platform thingy they use looks like it would be pretty cool to take a ride on. Though my fear of heights would lead to some white knuckles.

GF has so many miles that she gets an upgrade to business class every time. It's apparently very nice.

I need to work a little harder, I can't get in front of the curtain yet. Granted I don't fly that often.

I took the tour at that facility on Saturday. It was interesting but i would have preferred to see it in operation (they don't manufacture on weekends, only maintenance and other work). Still neat to see the big pieces coming together though.
