I finally installed the muffler on my sable. If you were at the C&C event back in september I said I would have the muffler installed before the next Oppo meet. Well, I stayed true to my word and I got the muffler installed with alot of help from my Dad.
Muffler in question
Mocking up the Gibson tip from the F-150's old system
How I thought the muffler would be installed
How it really got installed
Now the muffler has a straight thru design, meaning its just like a big glasspack. It gives the car a really nice growl at low RPMs and gets very angry at higher RPMs. There is no rasp and no highway drone. I got this muffler used for $30 off a friend who had it on his Taurus and it retails for $85. He did include a tip that I didn't like....When I found out that my Dad was getting a new system for his F-150 I asked if I could get the old tip and he said yes. The tip is a 3.5 inch stainless gibson tip that retails for $55. All I had to do was; get clamps, a hanger and an adapter pipe for the tip. I got all that for under $20. In total I got the muffler on the car for about $50. I saved about $100 getting things used. I don't know about you but I'm very happy with that price. Next Oppo meet I'll be very to rev my Duratec and make good noises come out the back. If there are any questions/comment just reply in the comments section...
TL;DR I got a damn good deal on a muffler for a grandma car that sounds really good now.

man your car looked so much cleaner before I saw the flash shot of the bumper. This is why I hate living anywhere near other people, especially NY, MA and CT

What, other than making it look good, is the use of a tip?

What year Sable is this? I noticed you said Duratec, so I'm thinking 96-end of production.

It's still dirty, after a wash you can even tell that's there.

Being a massive eyesore and attention getter. Plus its an angle cut tip and helps it not look like a fart cannon. And it gets the exhaust gases to not melt the plastic bumper.

That's just so damn ghetto.
Tell you friend you need a real transmission next.

One of my friends converted his Pontiac GTA to a 6spd. It can be done!

Ah, the last gen.

in that case, it better be done! Although I had a nice couple week loaner of an autobox GTA back in the days, still a hoot even with the slush involved

Nope, second to last. Ford brought back the Sable name when they redid the 500 to the Taurus back in 2008.

I know, but I've never really considered that to be a gen of Sable, considering how badge engineered it was.

Unless you're at night classes, second shift is unhindered. Pays better too. Sort of.

I've got some night classes and I might do a 5 speed swap someday....

You can still work part time, that's what I did. Gotta get gas and parts money somehow....

I'll try and get it done someday...
