BMW doesn't make the Z3 as far as I know. And the i8 is more of a super car rather then a grand tourer...

The i8 definitely isn't a super car. I'd call it a sports car, albeit an expensive one, like a 911 or Aston Martin Vantage V8.

The i8 is most definitely NOT a supercar, more of a "Super-Prius Sport", if you will.

Lol at the Z3.

Pierce Brosnan called, he wants his car from Goldeneye back.

Author is an idiot.

Local paper car reviews are the worst. THE WORST.

I suspect it must be from a local-local paper, where the car guy also does the obituaries, and got the car gig because he could tell the difference between a Nissan and a Toyota.

Michael Crichton coined the phrase "Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect" for the undeserved credibility of media along these lines:

"Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.

In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know."

Well, the 911 is a super beetle some might say. I dont agree with that view. The 911 is one of the best modern cars on the market.

Well in the context it's commonly used in, I don't agree with it at all, but seeing as it is a direct descendant of the Beetle(but more closely towards the 356), there is an argument to be had for that for sure. it is THE BEST modern car on the market.

It's a very difficult car to classify. I mean, you can't call it a supercar (or really a super sports car) because it plainly doesn't belong on a track. It's a road car through and through, but clearly it is sporty. I think I would call it a sports car, sure, but maybe the best description would be a showcase sports car. Something that is new and futuristic and striking, you know?

I'd call the i8 a hybrid sports car, with super car looks.

There is so much wrong with this article though. To mention the M4 and the "M3 coupe" in the same sentence immediately gives away this fellow has no idea what he's talking about. He also kicks off the second paragraph saying "1 through 7 series..." there is no more 1 series in the US, the 2 has taken that spot. I literally get paid to know this stuff.

Definition of a Grand Tourer from wikicars: "A grand tourer (Italian: Gran Turismo ), (initialised GT ), is a high-performance automobile designed for long-distance driving. Any such car could be considered a grand tourer, but the traditional and most common body style is the coupé (two door) with either a two-seat or a 2+2 seat arrangement.

Grand tourers differ from typical sports cars (e.g. Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche 911) in that they are usually larger, heavier (sometimes more than 3,500 lbs), and tend to add less compromise in comfort for the sake of driving ability. For this reason they mostly have front-mounted engines , which leave more space for the cabin than mid-mounted engines . They also tend to have softer suspension to provide good ride quality . However, grand tourers do have similarities with sports cars, such as the fact they mainly use rear or four-wheel drive , and the term sports car may be used to describe a car with grand touring qualities."

I would say the i8 fits into that category very well. It doesn't really have the performance pedigree to make it a supercar.

Supercar definition: "A supercar is a term used for a sports car , typically an exotic or rare one, whose performance is highly superior to its contemporary sports cars. The proper application of this term is subjective and disputed, especially among enthusiasts. In addition, the use of the term is dependent on the era; a vehicle that is considered to be a supercar at one time may not retain its superiority in the future. Nonetheless, the automotive press frequently calls new exotic cars "supercars"

The i8's performance is no better, actually its probably worse, than most of its sports car contemporaries. The P1, LaFerrari, 918, Zonda, those are supercars, not a 3-Cylinder Hybrid BMW. Grand Tourer isn't an insult for a car, and we shouldn't act like it is. Just because a car isn't meant to destroy people on the track doesn't make it bad. http://wikicars.org/en/Grand_toure… Look at the list of cars on here, and you'll see Grand Tourer isn't a bad designation. You know the GT racing category, the one that has the Viper, Vette, and 458? Yeah, that stands for Grand Tourer Class.

He says the M4 and M3 coupe and sedan. He should have put a comma and said "The M4 and M3, coupe and sedan" but it actually makes sense just a small grammar error. He's referring to the M4 coupe and M3 sedan, and he lists them respectively. Also, if you go to bmw.com it still lists the 1 series, so you can see how he would make that mistake, and the Z3 was probably just a simple typo.

Kinja'd!!!

It lists one through seven on the page, so its an easy mistake to make

And I'm sure somebody with 'Porsche' in a non-negative manner in their username would be completely unbiased in saying that a 'Porsche' is the best modern car on the market. :)
