!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Solid(ish) body, running engine, awful headlining but good seats. Definite project, but it's only £650. Buy it, swap an injected Rover V8 in and hoon away. Then keep the 2.6l SOHC I6, rebuild to fast-road spec and swap into a TR6. Yes please :)

I shouldn't be looking at this just after buying !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (although I got enough in my tax rebate that I should be able to get the Citroen off the road if only it'd stop raining long enough for me to finish the welding).

On an unrelated note, I definitely did *not* just get a replacement for the library copy of Hammill that disappeared, and I also definitely did not catalogue some of its useful notes on injection.

Damn you're asking for trouble with these car choices. Would be a fun car though.

I suppose I should change my handle to 'BiTurbo228 - Automotive Masochist'

Would be fitting, but god help me I love these cars :)

I understand it, if I had the room I'd have a cheap project car since I already have a solid car for everyday use. As it stands though I barely have room for the one tiny car.

I'm very lucky in that we've got a huge area for storing cars. Not much garage space yet, but we're going to be expanding that in the not-too-distant future :)

I won't be a student much longer so when I get my own place I can get at least a driveway or something. That's when the spending begins...

DO IT! That TR6 had to come to you eventually (or did you have one already, just an engine, right?)!

Didn't notice that BX of yours, now it's definitely time to change your name indeed. I would suggest 'BiTurbo228 - Garagista con troppi veicoli inaffidabili'. Although that Masochist-part is awfully true!

It really has. I haven't had much time to crack on with things recently, and 3/4 of the time it's been bucketing down...

Yep :) fun spending though. What would you be looking at getting/what have you got already?

Probably something impractical and sporty like an alfa spider, or an mx5 if I decide I want a little bit of reliability. I have a fiat panda diesel now, very cheap to run and not too dull so makes a good first car.

Hah :) I like that. If only you could have that many characters.

I don't have a TR6 yet, but I'd love to have one :) as my Spitfire will have a breathed-on TR6 engine, a TR6 would just be a bigger, slower version of the Spitfire. Enter the 2.6l SOHC Triumph/Rover I6 :)

That way, I could get a cheaper CP TR6 with the weaker 125bhp emission-curbed engine and it would matter as I'd be swapping it out. I could even go for a US import 105bhp carbed one :)

Neat :) what sort of mechanical experience have you got? If you'd like to learn then the Spider is a good bet. They're not as unreliable as people think, although it will be more involved than the MX-5.

Perhaps the MX-5 would be a better option if you're a novice wrench, although if you're ambitious the Spider is within reach :)

My grandad started teaching me when I was about 8 and I've worked on my and my familys cars ever since. We only use garages for getting tyres mounted and MOTs, me and my grandad do the rest. So I'm pretty good mechanically haha. All I really need to do is get better at welding, I did some while training as an engineer but I'm still pretty weak at it.

Basically how easy the car is to work on isn't too much of a problem unless theres huge rust problems or very complex electronics.

Looks like a solid base for a project – I love that metallic blue, too. When I was young, my uncle had a manual 2600 in that colour, and I thought that it was the coolest thing ever. Enough so that I bought an SD1 myself!

Shame about the interior, but there must still be a few rotten SD1s around the place that you can scavenge from. It's remarkable that the seats look as good as they do – the upholstery was notoriously delicate. Mine looked good, but that was only because it had had sheepskin seat covers on it for its whole life.

Definitely get the Alfa then :) the only way to get better at welding is with practice anyway ;) plus, get a halfway decent car and they're not nearly as bad as their reputation either (most of the reputation was earnt in the late 70s, early 80s).

I was thinking the same about the interior :) plus, how hard can gluing another headliner in place be?

I love the blue too, and I love that wedgy front bumper/airdam. Really complements these cars :)

I am sorely tempted...

I am definitely moving towards the alfa, mainly because I see MX5s every day and never see alfas. I've got about a year before I'm set up after graduating though so plenty of time to browse car sites and think about what I want.

Only one question left: What to do with that 125bhp or 105bhp engine. Maybe cramp it into the BX. And make that a RWD in the process. You've got the tools, skills and space!

If I was clever about it, I'd have done this before the Spitfire and then use that engine for the little car. Hindsight eh?

Go for it :) will be worth more than the Mazda if you keep it in good nick too (if you care about money, I don't particularly...).
