I broke My phone

I damaged every single ribbon cable in the Display assembly. It would cost $50 bucks in all to fix. But, My phone is 2 years old and Im eligible for an upgrade, Im wondering if its even worth it to put the effort into fixing it. I asked my parents if They could get me an iPhone 6 as a very early birthday present. I'd buy one myself but I have no money for phones at the moment, and I dont wanna lose my Grandfathered Unlimited data plan. They didnt say no, but still not yes as of tonight. So for now, I'll be using this:

If it helps, I have a 5C (in Kermit the Frog Green) - no need for a 5S or a 6. Thought about getting a 6Plus while the GF was in Japan, just to piss her off, but then remembered the RULE: I am not allowed to have a nicer phone than she does - she has two 5s - one for US America and one for the rest of the world. And I love my 5C - got a Lifeproof case for it, and it now weighs a bit more and feels more substantial in my hand. Held a 6Plus a couple days ago - feels like a toy.

Aaahh - why did I think you had a 4S? If you're at 2 years (much like my Verizon contract) they will only grossly overcharge you for the phone instead of ass-raping you for it - I think it would cost me $600 to upgrade to a 6 (halfway thru my contract). I have a 10 gig plan and get raped to the tune of $170 a month here in NYC. I think I can change to 5 gig as my current job has WiFi. So confusing.

I have a grandfathered unlimited plan (Thank you iPhone 2G) the 2G was required to have a $20 unlimited plan on att (I think it still is). When I got my 4s back in 2011 (before my iPhone 5) I got to upgrade to a $30 Unlimited plan, even after they discontinued it. I really dont wanna lose that. But I am eligible for a contract renewal and upgrade. So I can get a iPhone 6 64GB for $300 and keep my unlimited plan if I act fast.

No it is not. I was stuck with Dial Up until 2008 because the last telephone pole in my neighborhood is in my backyard. I was the last to get DSL. I dont live in the boondocks, its just how the counties were formed back in the 60s

Well that diagnosis was an epic FAIL on my part. So get the best phone deal you can. And get a passport. And go to London, or Rome, or Brussels, or St. Petersburg, or Stockholm, or Oslo, or Copenhagen (HOT WOMEN!) .... You will come back and see your country through new eyes. I did, when I got back from Brussels many years ago.

When I impaled my Optimus G with a recliner hinge (long story) I had to use my dad's old flip phone. Which was basically a military-grade Motorola Razr.

Worst 2 months of my life. Didn't help that my girlfriend got a new phone during that time.

We tried to fix mine with parts from Ebay. After the second new screen got here from China and wasn't the right one, we said fuck it and bought me another Optimus G.

I'd just upgrade if you can get a good deal.

Thats my conundrum. Its way cheaper to fix it, but Is it worth the effort and money? I mean, If I dont get a new phone now, Im definitely gonna get one in the next 1-2 years. Is that 50 bucks worth another 1-2 years? or is it worth it to pay $300 for 64GB iPhone 6 and have it last 4-5 years.

Thats what Im thinking. I wanted to keep my jailbreak. but theres gonna be one eventually for iOS8 and the iPhone 6. And working on my phone, I may break it more. Plus I dont have a paypal, neither do my parents. So all the parts purchases are being routed through my brother, who is busy with college. So that may be a while if I fix it. But on the other hand, I have no money. So I'd have to convince my parents to get me one as an early birthday present (my birthday is in august). But that means, I wont get anything from them for my 22nd when that comes around.

I switched from an iphone 4 to samsung s4 and im happy.

On computers its another story. I love my mac and would not go back to windows.

I have the 6. It makes the 5 feel like the 4 did when the 5 came out. One thing I really can't stand is how the camera protrudes out of the back. Nothing a simple case can't fix though.

Let's be realistic here. You won't keep the 6 for 4-5 years. Nobody will. In 2019 you will be 26, probably earning good money, and a lot of new toys which we can't even imagine right now will be out. You will probably get bored with the 6 when the 7 or 8 comes out, or switch to something else like android or maybe some Chinese or Russian (I highly doubt that one) OS that will be all the rage by then.

Why not use a middle ground option? A slightly used 5 off e-bay or a simpler android phone. These are around $150 and really aren't THAT bad.

I actually keep my electronics until they die. I had an iPhone 2G until 2011. My DD computer is 4.5 years old and my iPad runs like crap but I'll keep it till it craps out. I hate android, the os doesnt have good design, as an artist thats just as important to me as the hardware. I really dont wanna get a used iPhone 5, because I already have an iPhone 5 and that would restart my contract because Im eligible for an upgrade.
