But man damn do I really want to pick up an LX 5.0 convertible... 5-speed, pony wheels, and luggage rack.
On the local Craigslist there are several between $3500-5000 and I suppose that if I find a clean one it may even appreciate in value some day...
But even if not, I could have a decent toy that won't make my wife want to stab me.

You should do it. You can't go wrong with a 5 liter fox body. I wish I liked convertibles because not only are the prices decent but, unlike the hatches and coupes for sale, most 'verts are unmodified and unbeaten.

My roommate in college had a dark blue '93 automatic coupe that I drove regularly because he didn't like driving. It was a huge departure from my '95 Saturn and more so from my '73 Mustang convertible with the 351 Cleveland.

I was actually just looking at these as well. What did they put down 215hp?

Around that. It varies by year. 93 had more emissions controls and were down to 205. Highest rating was I think 225/300tq in 87-89. Not bad for a cruiser when I wouldn't care what people thought of me driving it. I would prefer the luggage rack to the spoiler so I have a place to put the dog carrier with the top down. (I kid... I kid. The dogs would actually sit in the seats)

I want one too but it would need to be a coupe can't drive around the great white north with a convertible, hell maybe next summer.

I brought a Christmas tree home in my 73 one year. It was 20F and snowing and I had the top down and the tree strapped into the back seat. Those big V8s put out a lot of heat.

Easy to work on and I bet 200hp is more than enough to put a smile on your face down a back road

With gobs of torque, relatively speaking. Also, low-option coupes could be had under 2800 lbs. That's less weight than my Kia Soul. Depending on options, a manual convertible would be between 3000-3200 lbs.

Lightness really is the answer to everything.

I had two, a silver '86 GT, then a maroon '91 coupe. Never should have sold that coupe. The '86 had T-tops and that thing was as flexible as a gymnast, I can't imagine how flimsy a convertible must be even.

My '73 was as floppy as undercooked bacon but it was still fun. I imagine some SFCs would be plenty for my purposes. As long as it's rust free and doesn't have the saggy doors that so many developed it should be fine.
