He managed to fire a shot at the radiator, which made the car break down right after. Helping get the robbers arrested. And that last milisecond jump probably saved his life.

Fun fact: a modern MINI's cooling system doesn't need to be shot to cause the car the break down, the cooling system will just kind of disintegrate on its own at some point.

The robbers tried to pop the hood and extract the bullet before it did any more damage, but couldn't find it because it's on the passenger side.
