Ever see a modified example of one of your favorite cars that looks about perfect? Maybe it's the color or wheels, but you know when you see it and you instantly want it. How about this little red Corvair?
Find this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! currently bidding for $6,700 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go and a buy-it-now of $14,800 on eBay, located in Sheboygan Falls, WI.
DT's own resident Corvairentologist Hunsbloger says bidding on this one should reach to $12k easily, its always those last $3K that are hard to come buy unless someone else has your same taste. Absolutely love the stance, chin spoiler and wheels/tires on this one though. Cutting the springs isn't the best way to lower height and maintain ride, but the engineer inside me says F=kx...what is the problem?
You pay a huge premium for the turbo, but most owners could just as easily be satisifed with a Weber set up. The 180 horsepower rating comes from the days of SAE gross horsepower estimates and the 2.7 liter turbocharged flat-6 will be lucky to put 100 horsepower to the pavement.
A quick look inside shows a nicely preserved or restored interior and, of course, the required 3-pedal setup. The middle pedal will be shockingly effective because it has updated brakes (dual circuit master cylinder).
See a better looking medium-low budget classic? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I saw this car at Road America this year. Absolute head turner and very clean. The only thing I wasn't totally sold on was the wheels.

That is my only gripe. I want to see it on something more period-correct.

They are a bit on the large side...but somehow work.

Maybe it was that they stood out so much at the venue. Lots of mint Historic cars there, so the wheels stood out to me. Iv'e always disliked really large wheels though.

The wheels don't really fit it, and the color-matched air damn is a (small) negative, otherwise looks good, real good.

Wheels aside, that's almost exactly how my '69 is going to look...the later Garnet Red might be a little darker, but still. What a gorgeous little car.

My parents, do all intensive observation being only mildly progressive, once explained to me over a pool game while I was 17 how to make it in a Corvair. The car took on a certain je ne sais quoi at that point. So all your accolades just add to it.
I approve this post.
