Here's some friendly shark hunting from this past Saturday. The guy in the Z4 M is my friend Erik, with whom I've done a bunch of track events. Had an absolute blast chasing him down for a few laps. Thought some of you might enjoy the sights and sounds in this clip!

Missed this one when you posted it. Good stuff, but it bums me out some, since I'm not sure when/if I'll make it to the track this year. Our spring backroadtrip is this weekend, though! 10 of us going this time.

Sounds like a blast! Sorry you don't have track plans sorted though. I'm sure something will work out, it's a long season after all.

My first event is not this weekend but next at Summit. Our CCA chapter is doing a 3 day there and we're taking our "new" E46 330 for its initial stock-form shakedown. I'm driving it on Summit main on Monday the 2oth. We'll see how that goes. The M3 I planned to drive in mid May at a new track in Massachusetts called Palmer Motorsports Park, which looks like a blast. Depending on how the 330 build is going, I might drive it again instead. I'm partly happy about that and partly disappointed because I just bought NT-01s (as you may recall) for the M3, which is my first set of R-comps. Of course, my "responsible" plan for this year was to get into a "real" track car so I didn't have to risk the M doing umpteen events... It's been fine so far - haven't even gone 4-off with the thing, but every track event is rolling the dice to some extent and there's an awful lot of equity in a car like that to be whipping it around at 145mph next to race prepped E30s and E36es etc. Blah. #firstworldproblems

Has to be exciting to have a dedicated track toy now. Hope it all comes together well - look forward to seeing what all you end up doing with it. I definitely hear you about rolling the dice at the track with such an expensive car, but it sure is fun... Ha!

Well it WOULD be fun if the thing a) ran and b) looked like a race car. A lot of "track toy" work is highly un-glamorous, especially at the beginning. For example, you have to replace a bunch of engine parts and suspension components that are just straight up worn out at 177k miles (that's what our donor has on it). Not only that, but the previous owner likely half-assed a bunch of things that you have to fix, including grinding down all 4 seized rotor set screws and slipping a new rotor over top of them. We spent an entire day dealing with replacing those with new screws. I ended up CHISELING the old ones out. Golly. I'll be so glad to start doing "real" stuff like ripping out the interior and installing a half-cage (for this season only, prior to the full cage build) and race seats and a real race suspension. First, we have to shake the thing down stock and make sure it doesn't blow up lol.

Oh man... Gotta put in the work for the payoff, I guess!

Well, if we were smarter (and had more patience) we would've just bought a race car. My co-owner, however, is hell bent on building a car and I figured meh, might as well do it once to say I did. =)

Yeah, seems like buying a used race car is the value option, but something something... the journey is sometimes the best part of the trip.
