To be upfront, no mention is even made on whether or not this thing runs. But assuming it does and considering the tinge of rust above the rear bumper, is $900 a fair price? How much harder will this be to maintain than my 1969 Newport.
Car is not for me btw. Coworker likes old BMW's and is looking for a good cheap first classic car.

if it's got rust, avoid it like the plague. If it is just mechanicals, it could be fun. Mechanicals take time and money to fix. Rust takes part of your soul with it.

if it runs and the rust isnt too bad 900 is fair, not great. the 320 was a strangled dog while the 323i was quite a decent runner. Even the 320is is lethargic. You have to look in EVERY nook and cranny for rust because they do so everywhere. Also if it is a sunroof look twice and see if the drains are clear

E21s are always worth it. Under $1k? Hell yeah.

Having that M10 the engine won't be the problem: Parts should be easy to get and it's quite reliable. Don't know what the 'i' injection was on a US-spec M10, probably mechanical (k-jetronic?), no experience on that, just on M10s with carbs or Kügelfischer.

Only thing to worry is that rust. These tend to rust intensively. And those pictures are so small: that passenger-seat looks pretty torn apart!

Should be easy to maintain. The M10 is simple and reliable.

As others have mentioned, rust is the concern with this car. The sunroof drains need to be clear; if they aren't, water will get into the footwells and rust them out. Definitely poke around underneath the car for soft spots/holes in the floor if you go take a look at it, also pull up the carpeting and the spare in the trunk.

The pictures look old and I feel like I've seen this car listed before, perhaps several times and couple of years ago. Let us know if you go take a look at it. I wouldn't mind knowing what shape it's in.
