Because I'm not rich and the F-type Coupe R sounds amazing, looks fantastic for a new car, forgoes turbochargers, and will be pure insanity to drive with a manual.

It comes with manual??

*cries because I know the 4C will never depreciate*

I'm hoping the same. I don't care which engine it is, I just want one.

Not yet, but they're testing a manual on the 'ring.

True, but I'll settle for it minus the prettiness plus a pedal: an Elise.

It'll depreciate. Italian cars tend to due to their poor reputation for reliability. Have you seen how fast the depreciation on maseratis is?

most say the V6S is better. If I still have the C4 at this glorious moment I could do without a V8...

BUT YOU KNOW I'M OBSESSED WITH ALFAS
![]() 10/05/2014 at 13:21 |

But they're only sending 1500 4Cs to the US, last I read. But you do make a point. The initial depreciation might happen.
![]() 10/05/2014 at 13:25 |

Just get an older RWD Alfa! That's all the 4C is trying to emulate anyways. You spend less for more character, involvement, style, and the pride of owning an old car.

I want both, trust me. A 105 series is my dream car.

Classic Alfa + New analog sports car >New analog sports car that happens to be an Alfa.
Come on, man! Help me help you.

Let me put it this way, a Lotus Elise has a depreciation floor of about $35,000 and similar msrp and sales numbers. But that's with a super reliable toyota engine. How low do you think the 4C with an unreliable italian job will drop?
![]() 10/05/2014 at 13:31 |

I'd rather have a Noble M600 than a 4C though.
The last analog Supercar.

The cheapest 4C in the UK is $86,236 dollars. Wat?
![]() 10/05/2014 at 13:33 |

but WHY
![]() 10/05/2014 at 13:34 |

I have the EVO where they pit all of the great analog super cars against each other, and that's when I got hooked on the M600. The only new supercar not designed for massive douchebags made today is the M600 and they have to make it forever I know they will.

Terrible depreciation usually means really bad maintenance problems though.
What you want is the Lotus treatment. Just enough to get into the realm of affordability but reliable enough to keep from sinking further.
Or just start a rumor that it makes you impotent. That could work too.

A Ferrari now needs low-end power, an automatic transmission, and comfort modes. Enzo's grave is practically a washing machine on tumble mode.

When you say "Enzos," are you referring to the limited production model or using the term to describe modern Ferraris in general?

Newer Ferraris in general. Rusto just told me that you told him that you drove one, so yeah. That sounds like fun.

I feel like you're being short-sided with your argument. Ferrari would love to keep high revving, naturally aspirated engines in their vehicles but they honestly can't because of fuel mileage regulations. Honestly, the only way they could accomplish this is to pull a stunt like Aston Martin did with the Cygnet.
On the issue of them using an "automatic transmission," technically they use automated-manual dual clutch transmissions, but that's an argument for another day. Regardless, Ferrari has moved away from a "true" manual transmission because it's slower, plain and simple. You can't expect a company like Ferrari, who has built their reputation on racing, to make a modern, highly advanced vehicle and then fit an old, antiquated technology. The fact is, Ferrari doesn't offer a manual transmission anymore because it's biggest limitation is the person using it and, even then, its still slower than the dual clutch.
Finally, I don't understand the argument over comfort modes. If you want a dedicated track car then buy one (ironically, since dedicated track cars have fully adjustable suspensions, you could make the argument that even those could be set up to have a comfortable ride). However, the world is a wide expansive place and not all of the roads are perfect. Therefore, I don't see what's wrong with having the ability to soften the blows and bumps that are transmitted from the road. Why do you feel they are so terrible?
![]() 10/05/2014 at 15:43 |
|
While you bring up good arguments I'm afraid that I was just kidding for the most part. Ferrari's original goal with road cars wasn't even to make the most enjoyable car but a having lucrative way of funding the racing business anyways.

That's tough. Yes, they aren't as raw as the great ones (F40, 288 GTO, etc.) but I wouldn't say a 430 Scuderia (or Speciale) is soft by any means. There's always a battle of how far is too far. Should we strip everything out and make it a street legal race car or make it a legitimate option as a DD. I think they've done an admirable job of positioning their cars somewhere in the middle.
I have been lucky enough to drive one. Really a terrific vehicle.

I can imagine that getting old after a while, actually. The thing that would get to me is the droning sound you find in a lot of newer V8s.

Ah. Well I'm sorry for being argumentative then. It's just the people that are serious can sometimes frustrate me.
![]() 10/05/2014 at 15:53 |

Yeah you make a good point. But I like racecars, so I'm biased and such.
![]() 10/05/2014 at 15:56 |

It definitely would. One of the representatives was showing off by revving it and even though he only took it up to 4,500 rpm, I thought my eardrums were going to burst.
I couldn't agree more. I love the sound of a great engine but when I'm just cruising, it should be reserved.
![]() 10/05/2014 at 16:00 |

No problem, I don't give really give many shits about the stuff coming out of Maranello today TBH but their target demographic and purposes have changed and they can't be what they once were. If you want a screaming, gated shifter driver's car you can save yourself a lot of money by buying a 308 or waste time complaining about what some oil prince is actually going to buy.
![]() 10/05/2014 at 16:04 |

That's alright.
Let me put it this way, I absolutely loved my Carrera GT and still feel that it's probably the best car I have ever driven hands down. However, I actually think the Ford GT is my favorite car overall because it has the involving elements of the CGT but doesn't frustrate you in everyday situations. Put simply, if I had to choose one supercar to drive on my favorite back roads, it would be the CGT no contest. However, if I had to choose one supercar to live with the rest of my life, it would be the FGT.
Unfortunately, what makes some cars so wonderful to drive, can also be their achilles' heel.

MIND = BLOWN
All we do here is argue on the internet about cars we'll never drive. But you've actually owned, them so your input is more accurate than ours will ever be!
I've heard the clutch is weird on the CGT. But the NOISE
![]() 10/05/2014 at 16:12 |

I agree. However, I'm glad they still make wonderful driving cars, even if they don't provide the same thrill as their predecessors.
![]() 10/05/2014 at 16:16 |

Same. You have to hope some at least end up in the hands of people who actually appreciate them. I think it's telling that lotus can't manage to sell their pure sports cars, which means it's either watered-down Ferrari or no Ferrari. Watered down Ferrari is good enough for me.
![]() 10/05/2014 at 16:34 |

I actually enjoy reading all of your inputs. I like seeing what all of you think of different vehicles.
The CGT's clutch definitely takes getting used to. Unlike most manual vehicles, you don't give it gas as you release the clutch. In the CGT, you let the clutch out completely and then give it gas once you're moving (it has an anti stall system that gets the car moving for you). So, I wouldn't say it's bad but definitely different. (Don't expect to drag race anyone at a red-light because, when done properly, your pulling away from a stop will be slower than a Chevy Spark.)
The sound is phenomenal:
