Let's post our favorite scary movies.
I have three great scarers, from different subgenres of horror
3) Jacob's Ladder - Psychological horror thriller, that has a better twist than most M. Night movies
2) The Thing - It has everything; snow, monsters among us, Kurt Russell. Also, when the monster only partially changes and that fucking scream.
1) Event Horizon - I'm not a huge scary movie fan, with comedies and war movies being above that, very easily. That said, I feel like a lot of scary movies are much wimpier than their reputation. The Scream series are comedies with scary parts. Freddy can be frightening at times, but also has a lot of funny parts. Jason is campy. Halloween makes you want to root for Mike because he apparently is just thinning out the crop of idiots.
Event Horizon is pants-wetting scary. It reaches into your list of fears and sci-fi scares and just wrenches your very will to watch. But the scary moments are amazing, and the movie flows like a river of terror into your heart.

On a side note, Hitchcock was very good. The birds has one of my favorite scary scenes, when she finds the body sans eyes. No music, no sound really. Just a great "well holy shit that's not good" scene.

I kinda hated the birds. The Whole theme of the movie was kinda preposterous, completely unbelievable. But that Bristol roadster, OMG

DAT CAR
It was a goofy plot, but it had some damn fine scary moments.

I adore Hitchcock. I have almost all of his movies. My favorites are "The Birds", "Psycho", "Rear Window", and "North by Northwest." Although, most of those are more suspense than they are outright "scary."
I love the original "Halloween." As well as "The Strangers" - the sheer realism of (some of) that movie is pretty scary.
