Adventures in Photoshop - Apex Hunting License

As some of you know, I like to dabble in Photoshop. Most of what I create on there horrifies the masses, but every now and then I come up with something decent. A lot of the time though, I'm just kinda screwing around with it, seeing what kind of stuff I can do. It's the Forza vinyl shop for people with decent computers.

Anyway, at the urging of an Opponaut, I submitted two designs of mine to Blipshift. While on their site, I found an interesting shirt and sticker design:

"That's a pretty clever idea!" I thought to myself. It's witty, to the point, nice and clean design, and easy to understand. It's the gearhead equivalent to those "Terrorist Hunting Permits" you see in the back windows of beat-up pickup trucks in rural parts of everywhere.

Looking at it got me thinking, though - always a dangerous thing. If there were actually an apex hunting license, that would mean it's issued by a government agency. Government agencies don't care about aesthetics or style. They care about practicality and ease of reading by enforcement people and low cost to print. They certainly wouldn't make it good for ten years - why do that when you can make money selling a new one every year?

So, I set out to make one in Photoshop, using a Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources gun deer permit as inspiration. I kept it the same size as the original. This was the result (250% larger than actual to help with detail):

The problem is that while it's more realistic, I don't think it's really a better design. The original is better, in my opinion. But as a creative exercise, I think it turned out alright.

That's still pretty cool. I have the original on my windshield, and I've already fooled some people into thinking it's an actual thing, but this one looks more official, maybe it could fool more people hahahha....

Wonder how it would look if you put Resident - Unrestricted below the numbers and made the "Apex Hunting License" a big bigger? Well done!

I did my best to make it look official-like. It's a little more boring, but it stands out a lot more.

True, I have mine attached next to my college and hospital parking permits, but now I wonder if it doesn't look a bit out of place, as the other tags are all business as well.

I like the first one more too. The one I made is the one that would probably exist in the real world, but the first one is nicer.
