Thoughts so far:

Looks nice. I like the borderless windows

Multiple desktops work well, but not something I'd use that much

The start menu is basically a small start screen with an app list on the left

The Win8 start screen is easy to turn on

Boots slightly slower than 8.1

Seems to run slightly faster than 8.1

Windowed 'Modern UI' apps work great

I already got rid of my 10 VM because I felt it seemed pointless to keep after messing around for a few hours. I like it a lot, but if I already have 7 on my machine; I'm not rushing to upgrade.

how long does it take to launch task manager or say right click an icon to modify? I ask as my 8.1 Chronos (i7 and 8gb of ram) takes a good 6 seconds for each task. It's the same feeling you would get if driving an m3 and it takes the engine a dozen cycles before it actually starts

We're finally getting business to move from XP to 7, and a lot of them only move because their XP boxes are either suffering fatal hardware failure or they can't afford to keep fixing them. One of the reasons they don't upgrade is that they have 3rd party apps whose developers haven't moved on to newer operating systems and won't support them.

I'm not terribly looking forward to trying to move these same clients to 8 or 10. Some of thee people are befuddled by the most basic UI changes, I can't imagine what a metro interface would do.

This said, I really like 7, I personally don't use it, I'm running 8.1, but it is still a solid OS, and a nice transitions between XP and 8. I might have to spin up a 10 VM, it looks interesting.

If your i7 takes that long, you might need a tune up. My i5 pulls task mangler in 8.1 almost instantaneously. That being said, my experience with 10 so far (on a VM, 1 proc, 1 core, 2GB RAM) it's just as smooth as 8.1

I know that struggle. We only juuuust finished moving our major client over to 7. Including a switch from Lotus Notes to MS Office.. we had training seminars for team leaders to get up to speed on the changes, hired extra resources to floor walk for the first few days of the changover to make sure everyone was happy (lots of issues with emails not being imported properly to Exchange) and put 15 more people on the helpdesk to deal with the increased number of calls.

Took about 6 months to roll it out over the 40 thousand users.

it's done it since day one, I just assumed it was because of 8. I think it may have something to do with Samsung and their legendary bloatware since I can run PayDay 2 and Bioshock infinite on high graphics just fine. It's file system and such that drags.

9 never existed. Windows 8.1 is considered "9" but they never named it so because lots of programs see the 9 and think they're running in 98 or 95 and refuse to run. They don't bother to check for the second digit.
