I've decided that once work at my job is more manageable and my boss comes back from vacation, I'll look at local dealerships to see if they have a detailing position open on the weekends, or a couple afternoons or mornings a week. I don't want to stop what I do now, but I need a little extra money, and if it pays well enough, it'll be worth it. If it pays at least as much as my current job, I'll see if I can get a weekend position as well. Maybe detail full time and then fix computers part time. That would help the finances at my current job now a lot more, and still get me more money.
I'd like to detail on the side, but I'm not sure my dad will like me clogging his driveway with cars to wash.

It's a 2003 Mercedes Benz CLK430 with AMG performance package (honestly, just a body kit because it's post year 2000).
4.3L V8, convertible top, 17" AMG wheels, and fantastic seat massagers in the front.

Armor All wash and wax front to back, sunrise misting hose to clean the whole car and get the dust out of the soft top. I have Turtle Wax Ice wash and wax, but I'm saving that for when I can wash the SL600 and Magnum together.
Then, take a microfiber and get the car dry completely. Follow up with Turtle Wax Ice detail spray.
Windex Crystal Rain on the glass, because I had it available.
I haven't yet done the wheels because I don't have wheel cleaner for these. My main issue is that these wheels have really, really bad curb rash, so I would honestly rather see these go to a re-finishing company and fixed than just slathered in elbow grease and polished to be shiny with serious curb rash still.
I also don't do tire shine because that shit gets all over the car, that isn't good for a freshly detailed car.
If I had more than 90 minutes, I would have gone way, way more in-depth with the cleaning, but the car is cleaned up, and way more presentable now that it was originally.

There's not that much money in it at U.K. dealerships as it's mostly valeting (ie wash, vacuum, polish with a heavy filler polish and slick the tyres and trim). More detailing related dealerships are fast paced and slightly better paid but not by much compared to the higher level of work done. I've been offered five jobs over the last couple of years and insisted I work the way I work and not how they want, most agree at first but soon change their minds once they see what is needed and usually go and get a cheap fresh out of school sponge-monkey.
Have a look at dealerships, approach them and see what you can both give each other but don't under value your work or your time in the process.
Good luck fella.

Thats a concern I have. I would rather work for a detailing specific place, but not a drive-through wash that really does more harm than good.
Thanks for the insight, Ill just have to see what comes my way, and how it works out. Im not expecting to make it a career, but I would like to see it as a great side job to have as long as it is both worth my time and whoever employs me.

Good luck fella.
It's something I really enjoy doing but couldn't do it as a job again like when I first left school.
