Actually, did I say I was sorry? I'm really not.

All Olympic and shizzle. It's an athlete car. An athlete in the field of muscle, and swag is its event.

It's almost shooting brake-ish in its interior space, and it's lighter than one would think. A prime candidate for lightly modernized engine architecture, a suspension tweak or two, and *nothing else*.

I just had an idea too horrible not to share. Take an ordinary fastback one, put in a good turbodiesel, then put trucker pipes on the sides and clearance lights on the roofline, with a Mack bulldog hood ornament. I think you know where this is going: "Mack 1".
Maybe even narrow dually tires in rear. Because The Giggles.

I'm sorry, but I have to give this gen over to the Camaro. Any other year though, Mustang would take it.

oh shit. A 7.3 IDI IH from the late 80's/early 90's F150 would haul the freight and be sufficiently rowdy. I like the way you think. Thing would be a troll to all humanity. Mack 1 indeed

Alger Hiss is insufficiently American to drive this.

I think the carrot cake soup paradox applies in this situation. I'm scared *not to* try this.

Whittaker Chambers on the other hand would find it fitting, especially if festooned with a decal claiming a Commie Hunting License.

I think that gen is a little lumpy and incoherent, and gets clearer a few years later. The Firebird for those years, I would agree.

Ill get the 7.3 and tranny, you get the fatstang shell, we'll split a case of beer, and we'll make this work of art happen

Truth. I think this may go at about #7 on my current "insane projects in order" list.

What'd be the best trans choice? Tow-built C6 with manual valve body and slightly higher stall TQ?

Definitely the Firebird though.

built C6 would work, the standards never held up in the trucks. Don't the 727's from AMC Wagoneers go right up to the IH bellhousing too?
![]() 10/02/2014 at 14:33 |

You appear to be right that 727s in some Jeep apps were IH as well, but the Wikipedia article seemed to be indicating that Scouts with 'em were on a Mopar pattern adapted to a Nissan diesel pattern . Using anything but a Ford case or IHI case auto appears to be asking for trouble.
Alternately, there are other diesels out there, but a 7.3IDI is probably the most amusing in a basic sense.

ha yeah. I actually have an extra SD33T I got when I got my Scout II diesel odd enough, with the turbo and a stump of exhaust. Had plenty of power for that 2 to move along, but yeah the 7.3 would be the most raucous, otherwise I would say 6BT it with the tranny right from a bread truck.
