Kinja'd!!!

At least this time it seems like a common failure and there is a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for it. I don't know that I should be glad about that.

EPC light came on and 'Engine Fault Workshop!' showed on the display. Car went into limp mode and was running like crap. CEL came on just minutes from home.

At least the car made it a little over a month without !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

This isn't helping with my deep set belief that VWs aren't as reliable as everyone makes out...

GTI life. Mine likes to randomly break too.

Get yourself set up with diagnostic software IMMEDIATELY. I am a VW fan and I would not keep a modern VW without having it.

Another reminder of why I will never buy a VW/Audi. A friend just recently had a transmission failure in his A6 Jetta.

Yours, jags and whiskeygolfs burning to the ground randomly make me want to stay far far away.

Mine has only gone into limp mode once and never had to be towed...so I've got that going for me. Ran the numbers though and over 20k in work has been done (mostly warranty). Since the warranty just ran out, we're going to keep it over the winter and then get something else come Spring. Normally I keep cars until 150k plus...but not this one.

GTI - Random annoying breakdowns since 1983 (US model, your mileage may vary, excludes taxes and title). My experiences were almost 30 years ago, but I see VW has kept the tradition alive.
