It's time for our daily Lincoln rant.

Kinja'd!!!

That headline was a little clickbaity, I'll confess. But there have been more than rumors surrounding Lincoln's 2017 MKS - that's the big Taurus-based sedan. Lincoln says it wants to build the MKS/MKS replacement off the next Taurus, and other names than MKS are being considered.

If that doesn't stir you... Car & Driver has reported that they are preparing a RWD coupe. Not official enough for you? Lincoln has said they won't rule out the S550 platform. Nothing is certain, but all factors point to one or more of the brand-defining cars we've been waiting for.

If you look for news on American full-size luxury cars on Jalopnik, you'll find news about the CT6. A car that's likely to be quite remarkable when it comes out, from a company that's been doing great these past few years or so. I look forward to the CT6.

But Oppo, Jalopnik and the collective enthusiast community has been complaining endlessly about a "RWD Lincoln flagship", or at least some big sedan that brings back the cache of the Continental. There's been informed complaining, misinformed complaining, all types complaining and now that something, maybe not exactly what we'd hoped for, but something , is actually happening, no one cares. What gives? It's like you purposefully love bashing Lincoln. Give Lincoln the credit they deserve.

Let's make a little list of why we should be excited about this.

- Continental, even MKS, is a much better name than CT6
- if it's FWD, it'll still handle better than any previous Continental
- even if it's FWD, it will most likely have RWD proportions (kind of cheating but still)
- Lincoln has hinted multiple times they are working on something big
- the MKS/MKS replacement is known internally under the codename "Continental"

Pretty convincing evidence, I'd say.

It only takes a little digging to tell that something is going to happen at Lincoln. Sure, I might be wrong. And this has all been just hopeful rumor the likes of which surrounds every company with fans begging for something legendary.

But I fucking doubt it. Get hyped yo.

Isn't the next-gen Taurus just being built off of a larger/stretched Fusion platform?

Well because they don't really have news to offer. And we've been too disappointed by Lincoln lately to get hyped about rumors without substance.

Cadillac has brought out some really really good cars lately. So when they say "hey we got some new hot shit coming" people pay attention. Lincoln hasn't had shit lately so when they don't even bother to say that they have anything good why should anyone pay attention to vague rumors?

Call me when they have test mules driving around.

Great, you jinxed it!

Now Ford will bring back Mercury instead of improving Lincoln.

You need to throw a pinch of salt over your shoulder, turn around three times, then knock on wood.

The main problem is right there... Its a rebadged ford based on a FWD platform. Cadillac has tried this in the fwd XTS which is the big luxury yacht. Interior is amazing but junk performance wise. That is what i see for the continental/MKS, a bloated yacht on a platform no one wants in with high end luxury and to top it off an eco-boost as "performance". Thats why no one cares.

I agree that the name Continental is a better name than CT6, performance-wise though? No one knows. And sorry but the new Lincoln styling still looks like a pill you shove up your ass for hemorrhoids.

frankly? I'll care when I actually see a production version. too many cars that they said: OH it will make into production like this! But either ends up not being made, or it becomes a complete bastardization of the concept.

If it's FWD it's an XTS competitor. S550 platform (is Mercedes pissed) now we'ere talking. A Mustang based 4dr Lincoln, I would buy that 7yrs used in a heartbeat. I want a 5 liter V8 Lincoln that comes with all the benefits of the Mustang community as far as upgrades.
