It's... pretty neat so far. Imagine Windows 8 had sex with Windows 7. The start menu is back, but it's more like a combination of the Windows 8 Start screen and the 7 start menu. Installed it in a VM. It's free to try off MS's site.

Glad they realized that not everyones computer is a tablet and that offices still exist.

If my computer wasn't absolutely critical to everything going on in my life right now, I'd give it a whirl.
I wish they'd retire the Windows Vista/7 icon set. That would go a long way toward improving the UX. Also, they can do better than that for the scroll bar.

Ooohh, That looks much less terrible than Windows 8.
I hated the lack of the start menu, and also hated the app thing. I bought a Toshitba laptop with Windows 8, I've used it maybe 10 times.
Windows 7 and everything before that FTW.

Just install Windows 7 on the laptop.

I did mine in a VM

But that's a colossal pain in the ass from what I hear.

It's pretty easy if you know what you're doing.
If you want, you can send it to me and I'll do it for you.

I've got a pretty good understanding on how to do it, I'm just contemplating on whether I'd actually use it more with Windows 7.
Thanks for the offer!

I currently have hardware VM capabilities disabled since it is documented to cause audio issues in Windows 8 on my motherboard (ASRock Extreme6 X79) and it did, in fact, cause those issues.
I suppose virtual VM is possible, but, eh. Effort.

I wouldn't; though it seems stable, I ran into a few slightly annoying nags.

I wonder if part of the reason for skipping 9 was the fact that 9 is unlucky in Japan, and "Windows 9" would sound like "Windows Pain" because 9/pain are homophones in Japanese. Also 4 and 'death.'
