A 97' Miata? Damn, son, most Winnebagos aren't over about 48'.

More seriously, not bad. Not bad at all.

It says 50,000 miles. Where'd you get 85k? As far as I can see it looks like a good buy. I'm sure others will weigh in.

Edit: I re-read your post. My mistake.

Just curious, where in NE Ohio are you?

It is a lot cheaper to maintain than a Porsche...

A lack of practicality is all the more reason to not go to the mall to shop

I have a Grand Cherokee that fills in for practicality.. sort of.

Well I've been shopping around for a second vehicle for awhile now and had almost given up the search until next spring, but a quick lunch break search of CL turned up some pretty solid examples.

I have a WJ and a 95 Miata and live in Ohio. Go for it.

If you want it, may as well. I ran my 2002 throughout the winter and it was fine. I loved the looks people would give me driving around with the top down while it was snowing out. It even did fine in the snow as long as it wasn't above the front lip.

That's just some Miata hate right there. As long as it runs good and it's what you want it's worth it.

That's exactly what you are looking for then and I was in the same boat until I bought my Miata. I know lots of guys who ride bikes and drive Miatas and they will tell you that people see you about as much as they do on a bike so be prepared for that. Still they hold up well in accidents so there's that.

That is a good point when I pass Miatas on the street I'm like damn that thing is low! It would be a summer car though so not like I'd be daily driving it.

I thought about a Subaru BRZ but they seem to be holding their value pretty well and I don't really want a car payment.

Did I mention I don't know how to drive a manual? Rode motocross for years and have driven a manual tractor but no cars. Which would make the test drive process a little difficult.

It's not too terrible. You just have to be actively watching your back is all. Between my wife and kids I'm the same way. I'm not worried about riding a motorcycle on a track but I don't want to ride one with cars in traffic.

That needs brakes, has 110 hp and is an auto so I wouldn't exactly call it 'good' either and its almost 50 years old so I also wouldn't call it practical.

McSeanerson is bang on. People just won't see you sometimes, especially in SUVs and cars with high beltlines. Drive defensively like you would on a bike, and you'll be in good shape. Other than that go buy one! I like NAs, but the much lower mileage on the NB (and they usually sell for more than the NAs) means I would go for the '01 if there's no significant issues.
