Does anyone how many of these there are? Next time I am in Toronto, I going to see if I can find the owner and have chat about the car.

That is truly awesome. Not kidding I have Dinan Turbo E24 here in HFX, Nova Scotia that I imported from Cali last year. And the Dinan Badging is identical and that one even has the missing foglights which means Turbo possibly. There may have only been 5 or 10 ever made. Mine is not nearly as "clean" as that one. I hope you find the owner cause that is a spectacular find.

Obviously it's sad to see such a rare and epic car - probably my favorite BMW of all time - sitting here collecting dust, but as other Oppo's have noted, it's probably because of the physicality of operating that clutch. Also, like all sport coupe's its low-slung and probably hard to get in and out of. It's sad that the owner, who clearly has excellent taste in cars and should be considered an honorary Opponaut, doesn't have the ability/desire to drive it anymore. Perhaps the owner or his relations do not sell the car yet because of strong emotional attachment.

AE-series plate suggests the owner has had it for quite some time - probably about 15 years or more - but not since new (when it would have been a six digit plate).

I live in Toronto and I'm on the road a lot. I've never seen this car, and believe me, I'd notice it. I've seen a couple E24's on the road but no Dinan M6's. Obviously just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it hasn't been driven but I suspect that it's been sitting for at least a couple years.

The OP obviously has legit access to this building, where I don't (relative staying there?). Best to wait until your return, but I'd be happy to assist in any way I can, like attend an inspection and/or ride along for a test-drive.

I hope the owner is found and that car can be brought back to life. A rare beast for sure. Car and driver July 88 "the annilhator". My youtube channel has a few posts of mine.
