It wasn't until I got home and saw the river of red that my car had left in the garage over the weekend that I knew.... THIS is why the power steering pump is whining bad and I just topped it off a week ago.
The leak is bad. Hopefully the lack of pump churning will not only cease the noise, but will also slow the flow.
P.S. sorry, honey. I needed a long knife to reach the belt.

I've heard that a disabled PS-equipped vehicle is harder to turn than a manučl rack because it pushes fluid through the passages.

It is, but I always assumed it was due to having less mechanical advantage because the system is designed for the driver to have hydraulic pressure helping.
