The Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona is this weekend.

There are a number of reasons why it is a big deal, but to give you an idea of how big of a deal it is the start of the race is actually going to be carried !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The start of the race was moved up 20 minutes to accommodate FOX. The pre-race will start at 1:30 on Fox Sports 2 and then shift to FOX at 2pm Eastern. At 2:10 eastern the green flag will fly and the new era of American Sports Car racing will launch. I can't remember the last Sports Car race that was carried live on network TV.

It seems like it was announced a long time ago that ALMS and Grand-Am would merge. If you haven't given Grand-Am a chance because it was run by people involved in NASCAR that's too bad. The on track product last year was amazing. This year you've still got the awesome product from last year and added the best of ALMS (PC and GTLM).

With more manufacturers getting involved with Le Mans (Porsche 2014 Nissan 2015 and Ferrari very likely) and a unified Sports Car series here in America we're looking at the dawn of a new age in sports car racing. One that could see a form of racing that operated largely under the radar for a long time come back to the forefront as being one of if not the premier form of motorsports.
