My gram's car was idling really roughly today. I don't know why. There seems to be more clicking than usual. Something to do with the timing maybe? I drove it to Ace and it ran fine when it wasn't just sitting and idling.

How's the oil? my father's 330xi had loud ticking, which was solved by adding more.
could it be a loose belt?

Sounds like serious valve clatter. Have you scanned the OBD2? Part store does it for free. Could have a cylinder misfiring (I.e. May be as simple as plugs and wires)
Edit: since you haven't checked the oil, do that first. Misfire will typically cause the engine to idle terribly.

Vacuum leak or header leak

Belts looked fine, and last time I checked the oil was fine, but I supposed I should have checked again. I might check tomorrow.

That's not good, eh? I'll have to get it checked somewhere.

Low oil will attribute to valve clatter as well but I assumed he is oppo enough to have checked that first

The oil was changed not too long ago, but somehow I totally forgot about checking it.

I have a bluetooth code scanner thing, and I could do it myself, but it has OBDI, not II! Piece of junk, I tell ya.

Shows what I know. Sorry. I thought body style would have the newer port. =\

Nope, sadly. If it had an OBDII I would be happy because I could see the revs as well lol. It doesn't have a tacho

Is it idling like crap (very unsteady, not rhythmic) or just the clicking noise? If it's just the clicking noise, check the oil. I wouldn't be surprised if it's low. As old as it is, grab some marvel mystery oil or Lucas oil and it'll shut it up. It will not fix the issue if you've smoked a valve, but it'll keep it quiet for a while.

It's both idling like crap and clicking.

You can get the trouble codes by jumping the diag pin under the hood and ground. I didn't watch your video but you should be able to find out which pins you need to jumper via the owners manual or google. Also check how clean the air filter is and the MAF. That's all I got.

That's interesting. Hm I'll try that

I hate internet diagnosis.
1. Check oil
2. Check plugs, wires, & whatever form of distributor/coil that motor has. Sorry I had an '85 GM POS car and can't remember.
3. If none of that is the issue, try driving it into a river. (Step 2.5 get full coverage)

It's a low-ish mileage boatmobile though. I love it and hate it at the same time.

I actually understand the sentiment. Please just report back. My curiosity has been peaked. If the flux capacitor is shot, I'd like to know.
Btw, nice call on killing the lights. Good way to determine cracks/misfire in plug wires. Also, not bad for exhaust leaks if the engine is cold.

Look around in the engine bay when it's running, also pull the plugs and check for oil on them.

Yeah there was nothing there so the plug wires are good.

I was going to check the plugs tomorrow and if you watch the video you'll see what's going down.

spark plugs!!

Yep yep will check tomorrow after school

Well not necessarily. Depending on the age of the wires, the internal wire could cracked, but not the outer shield, lacking an outer spark if they've got a good thick shield-Possibly. However, a Plug or plugs could be shot with good wires like you suggest. I would just do a tune up and see where you end up - but only after checking oil level.
And once again, I'm shooting in the dark, going off a rough description and an internet video. I'm trying man.

I shall be doing everything suggested tomorrow lol. I seriously think it's just the spark plugs and maybe the 02 sensor or something.
