For those who remember my previous post ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ): No I didn't give up.
I've bought this lovely body. It is sound, just needs a proper paint job. At birth it had the lovely colour 'Inka Orange' and that's the colour I'm having it repainted it in.
At first I was thinking about an M42-swap but, after getting more info on this job, I've come to my senses: Too much work. I will just mount an M10B18 (from a 318i E30) with a Getrag 245 5-speed from an E21. Transmission I've found in East-Germany (getting hard to find these days), now looking for an engine.
I know the M10B18 isn't the most powerfull but it's just an easy swap to do and as the car only ways around 950 kgs it will still give me enough pleasure, just like the current M05 (an M10 derivate used in the 2002) did. Looking to upgrade the engine by using other pistons/cam/exhaust though.
Car above will get it's paint-job done in a few weeks. This weekend starting to strip the current one for all usable parts, will keep you all posted!

I do love these '02 Tourings. Kickass little oddball cars.
Make sure you sell on your old bodyshell. It might be too much work to bother with if you've got another solid shell, but such a rare bodystyle could be a lifeline to another owner :)

Seems to be too much work. For me that is of course, not that good with restoring bodywork. If anyone is interested: Be my guest. Lots of parts still to be found, like rockers, but others (fenders, doors) are getting hard to find. But at least the fenders come with the car (in well condition), only missing the hood.

Yeah, major bodywork's not for everyone, especially if you've got another clean shell.
It'll be worth something to somebody though.
