Say you're in the market for a low 20k dollar V8 sedan. You need it to be new enough to finance, but have a few years of depreciation under its belt. Lets also say you've basically narrowed your choices down to either...

06-10 Charger SRT8

Kinja'd!!!

or a 2011+ Charger R/T

Kinja'd!!!

Is the decrease in horsepower and torque worth the upgrade in everything else about the car?

AWD STR-8, because discount V8 GT-R.

That doesn't exist though. So, I'd have to go with the SRT-8. The R/T ain't really all that quick for what it is.

Man I should convince my girlfriend that we should buy one of these.

The new R/T runs a 0-60 in about 5.2 from what I've read, the first gen SRT8 is about 4.9...

2011+. Better looking, more comfortable, almost as much juice as the previous SRT, no real compromises

I would get the Charger that has the "Magnum" badge on the back. :)

Okay, I'll play fair. I'd choose SRT8 in a heartbeat over standard R/T.

It's absolutely worth giving up some power. The 2nd gen is a far nicer place to spend time.

Well you either deal with this every day:

Or this:

I personally would much rather have the latter

definitely R/T. Better interior, better everything except HP... but really the difference isn't that huge, and you'll never notice I bet. Better MPG too, no?

Not to mention the older charger turned into a gangster mobile.

I drive a '13 everyday for work and I've spent a bit of time in the previous generation. Get a newer R/T. The interior is sooooooo much nicer.

I was SRT crazy for awhile, so I feel ya on that, but definitely the R/T.

Have you thought about a decommissioned Caprice cop car? There are already some being decomissioned and selling in the low 20's. It's basically the G8 GT (365hp V8). Here's one for sale on ebay right now.

I am definitely leaning towards the newer R/T, it does look and I am sure, drive much nicer

Highpower low-20k sedans? I of course have to vote for my '10 SHO, haha.

Anyways, a Charger... I'd go for the the '11+, it looks so much better inside and outside IMO.

If we take Doug DeMuro's advice , one could get their choice of a G8 GT, Charger , or SRT-8 ( Charger or 300 or Magnum), or even a Marauder or Crown Victoria Sport and have the vehicle not only financed, but warrantied as well.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Personally I'd skip the Charger/300/Magnum until they went on a diet. The G8 isn't bad, and is the basis for the CTS and new SS sedan. And while the Marauder and Crown Vic are large and definitely not as nice inside as the newer cars (though the Town Car is pretty nice inside) they are easily and cheaply modified, and stupidly reliable.

New version for sure- nicer and still has plenty of power.

Oh neat! The interior, while not anything special, looks rather well done/well appointed. Just need an armrest, haha.

I'm with most folks who suggest the newer one. The upgraded interior would probably be worth it. Although I'm a sucker for SRT-8s so in the end I could go either way. Probably which ever one you can get the best deal on with the lowest miles.

I was surprised to see them decomissioned so quickly. That's good for us who want low-mileage muscle for cheap.

A Chrysler 300

Note that I would not change the stock wheels or trim. Just need to call that one out.

I'd sure like to know why they got decommissioned so quickly! Not a whole lot of miles on there...
