Rainbow Dash's post reminded me... Does anyone here have experience plasti-dipping plastic stuff? How does it sound for a gaming console such as the 3DS?

This sounds interesting... I'll keep an eye on this post.

I'll be detailing the project in a post, if I decide to do it.

I've used it for controllers before, but I'd recommend some Krylon spray with a few clear coats instead. That will take the wear much better, and you can get a huge selection of colors.
For some of my background, I used to cosmetically modify Xbox 360 controllers, generally just repaints or LED changes, but it's a great product to use and requires little prep.

One of my bestie mcbestingtons has extensive experience with this stuff. It can very easily go wrong. Temperature and cleanliness are key. It's relatively durable, but I have no idea how it would react to the oils on your hands. Why not just spray paint? I've seen a lot of people do that to their consoles.

You could try but I don't think if would last very long. Opening/closing, in and out of pockets and backpacks and desk drawers etc. Once an edge starts to peel you can't stop it. I would think spray paint would be a lot better.

Kyrlon is good for controllers and such, but wouldn't really provide much in the way of scratch protection. I'll keep you in mind for future questions in this field though...

Was looking for that tiny bit of protection it might give, not just to change the appearance. Thanks for the input.

Gotcha. I was kind of thinking that, but I thought I'd ask.

The krylon I'm talking about chemically bonds with plastic, so it's very durable.
