I would be a little worried about a few issues like slippage, jamming and sprung weight, but they are probably a lot cheaper than mat tracks

So that's what they're called. First noticed them in a C&C Generals: Zero Hour mod I haven't played in a while (Humvees spawned with them on snow maps), never quite got to know what they were called...

I believe the original promo videos for them 5 or however many years ago were humvees one with tires one with matracks competing over various snow conditions and terrain

mat tracks require you to remove your wheels and bolt them on as well as movement limiters, these look much quicker, as a bonus, they look like they ride low enough that you don't have to worry about cutting wheel wells to fit either.
