Fun car I saw on my lunch for your troubles.
So, I have a radio in my Volvo, which only sort of works. It receives signal just fine, but at anything over a very low volume it gets very crackly/staticky. It doesn't change with volume after that point, just a loud and unchanging buzzing crackle.
I'm planning on replacing it with a newer headunit at some point anyway, but I'm curious as to what's causing this problem for now. Any thoughts?

ignition interference? Doubt it that's mostly old car stuff.

A: The amplifier(s) are toasting/toasted
B: (If analog) the volume rheostat / potentiometer is in need of replacement
C: Joke option Spiegel

It's possible your speakers are blown out...
Glorious Buick!

Speaker cones are blown out? (Large volume requires a longer throw of the cone, and if it's broken/torn, then it just buzzes and flops around.)
Try changing the balance/fader to see if any of the speakers are good, one at a time.

Hmm, ok. Is an 83 240DL old enough to have old car stuff problems?

I've always loved them.
I mean how many cars have you seen where the lights have a forward lean to them?!

Hmm, okay. The issue didn't really change much with balance and fade adjustments; the noise changes frequency a bit, but remains just as loud.

'65. Best year. Though not GS it appears.
I practically dream of these. Thank you.
