The Hot Rod era started about 1948 and the factories picked up on it right away. WWII had seen so many advances in technology for engines, especially for airplanes that carried over to cars. One of my favorites. I've always sung it as "until the lake pipes roar" where "lake pipes" equal dry lake bed racers using side pipes. What say you?

Lake Pipes are side mounted exhaust that usually run along the bottom edge of the car, are visible, and dump just in front of the rear wheel. (as I understand it.) No idea where the name came from, but that would make sense.

Yeah, I always just thought of "lake pipes" as "side pipes." I only mentioned it because the lyrics in video say "late pipes" (as do many people), but I always say "lake."
