Some people whose first knowledge of the brand came from the commercials with Crocodile Dundee. Seriously. A friend of mine, super smart dude, thought that for the longest time. His parents even owned a bugeye WRX.

More people than you'd want to believe; at least in the US. It stemmed from them introducing the "outback" and using Crocodile Dundee to advertise the cars. Ask a random sampling of appliance-drivers, and you'll most likely get several guesses for Australia.

Crocodile Dundee is a big fat liar and is the cause of one of the greatest misconceptions of out time.

I honestly used to think they were Australian. Just because I really didn't know any better, and the only Subaru model I knew of at the time was the Outback.

Because of all those Paul Hogan 'Outback' commercials I guess...
Everybody knows Subaru is the Japanese name for the Pleiades...thus the logo.

I was the only one who thought it was a re-badged Toyota Camry.
