So when I was installing my stock intake back on my car the other day, I discovered that one of my screws that holds my Mass Airflow Sensor in wouldn't screw in. After fiddling with it for a while, I took out the MAF and the screw screwed right into the airbox... It's just short of screwing in and holding the MAF in (grr).
Time to look for a new airbox or maybe a longer screw. Yay GM quality. At least my aftermarket intake is still holding strong :)

That intake looks excessively long. Where's a saw?

General rule of thumb is a bolt should thread in twice the diameter of the bolt in steel. In aluminum it should be longer. Heli-Coil can be a great friend in that case.

You sure the screws aren't 2 different lengths, or you have the wrong screw, or your MAF is in the right direction?

Yup, screws are the same length and the MAF can only go in one way. The screws are definitely correct too, I'm using them on my short ram intake.

Hmm, cool. I didn't even know about heli-coil.
It's actually all made of plastic, screwing into it isn't going to help, see here:
I could probably get away with the upper half of the airbox if I can find one in a scrap yard, not damaged.

Ah, well the obvious ones are out of the way then. Not a clue.
Also, my aftermarket intake on my Sonic used different screws than the stock intake. However, if yours screwed in just fine its probably not the issue. just some threads stripped in the plastic?

Wrap the screw in Teflon tape and add a dab of rubber cement or lock tight in the stripped hole. You'll be good as new till you find the part if you even need it at all.

and if its really stripped this will work as a repair kinda cool.

That is a good trick for fixing messed up threads in plastic. Hope you don't mind, but I shared this to Oppo.
