A number of you seemed to really enjoy the video I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! earlier of the gunsmith checkering the stock of a shotgun. Here is another video of the same guy bluing the barrel of a shotgun to prevent rust. Again really incredible work. If you are unfamiliar with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , like I was about a week ago, it is the process of intentionally creating a thin layer of a specific type of rust (iorn oxide) on steel in order to prevent it from rusting. Strange right? Well they have been doing this in some form or another since at least the middle ages when nearly all battle ready armor was blue and not polished steel like in the movies. Learn something new everyday.

Fascinating. Have known about bluing for many years, but have never seen how it was done. Great video.

For most firearms it is not this intensive but for these types of steel you want to be able to see the patterning so you have to pull it from the metal. Amazing stuff

I used to have a Damascus barreled shotgun. What a beautiful piece. (2nd post. Don't think the first took.)
