When manufactures black out a part of a C pillar to make it look like there's more glass. The Cruze does it, the Chrysler 200 does it, and the Acura TL has a sliver of it. What others am I missing?

I don't think it's meant for that; I think they do it to make the pillars seem slimmer than they are.

The Ferrari 458 Spider, of all things.

It's to make the shape smoother. The idea is that it looks sleeker or otherwise better than a dead stop. It's not uncommon and basically down to the fact that it's cheaper and easier than a token extra piece of glass.
Chances are the designer drew it like that before it became a piece of plastic.

You know what's worse? When manufacturers black out a part of the doors to make it look like there's more glass. Improve your engineering and actually offer more glass for F sake!

Chrysler is rubbing off on them.

I knew I wasn't the only one bothered by this shit! Duurtlang already posted the Volt.
The 90s Contour/Mondeo did this too:
Oh also, here is are-do of the Cruze without that stupid plastic:

Jag does it on the D of the XJ

I thought it was a Volt at first.. what is it?

Opel Ampera?

They're not fooling anyone. I assume it is supposed to be "glass" since it is generally a continuation of the windows.

It is an Opel Ampera. A rebadged Volt.

Yea I forgot about that one. I have no idea why they entire pillar is blacked out...

Now the Cruze looks like a Mazda 3.

The Maserati Shamal is an extreme example of this, though I guess it's technically the "B" pillar.

Da hell?

Blacking out the B-Pillar essentially accomplishes the same goal; you have beef with that, too?

BMW is guilty big time

Nope, no beef with the B pillars. It has generally been done very cleanly over the years and generally looks better. It is masking a break in the expanse of glass, not creating the illusion of extending the glass.

Yeah I think it just doesn't look right on a premium car..it looks really cheap
