You know if I'm a member of the NYPD I'd want to put a stop to this real fast. So here's what I would do. I'd hire a professional driver close off the streets for 20 minutes and set an unbreakable record.

Wouldn't be enough. People would still try because people in general, are dumb.

Still wouldn't prevent Fast and Furious wannabe's from trying though.

Might prevent someone. If the record can't be touched there's a lack of motivation to try. You might be able to break the unofficial record while there's traffic, but there's no way you can break the actual record which takes away a lot of the reason for doing it.

One word: chicanes. Like, a lot of them. The road would never be straight. Good luck maintaining a good line, asshole!
Or speedbumps. Although that would only convince people to start using Raptors.

I'd rather get a few nice CDs, a couple of good cigars, and a friendly co-driver and set the record for the most leisurely lap of Manhattan.

For extra record unbreakableness, use a Radical SR8 LM.

Just wondering, would the record count if the person ran all the stop lights? From the videos I see of these attempts, everyone stops at the stoplights.
(no, I'm not going to do it, but I'm just wondering.)

Hopefully it would cause a some of the brighter people to reason. But guys in bone-stock Civics still try racing high-performance cars because they think their skills are so much better and they have to prove it to the whole wide world.

I think they'd be better off in a BAC Mono.

The thing is that is where this is eventually going. Someone is going to run reds to break the record. If you're near the finish and you see a red that you know is going to ruin your time what do you do?

The SR8 LM holds the Nürburgring Production Car lap record of 6:48, so I believe it's actually faster.

According to the Top Gear board I think the BAC Mono is probably faster. Maybe Top Gear didn't try the SR8 LM but I could swear they did.

Yes! The chicanes from the New York track on Forza!

Welp, if you say so!

Let's just go flat out race and use the SR9.

If the NYPD wants to stop this, they'll track this guy down and fine (and/or jail him) for every infraction he committed in the video.

Statute of limitations for traffic violations is about 3 years in New York IIRC. This is the reason that this attempt in 2010 is just now surfacing and why Alex Roy waited for a similar period of time before he released his videos and book.
